Cato_walsh was a Chrysler dealer here years ago. I found that sign in the attic of the Chev-Buick Pontiac dealership when I bought their signs off the building. The Chrysler industrail marine engine sign was actually found inside a wall. It is painted boards.

Nice car, Charley. It does look good with redlines. I like the vinyl top, you couldn't remember if it had one or not.

There are so few 1969 Camaros that came from the factory with a cowl induction hood. Talk about a neat car, I bet this camaro is even more impressive in person. Can we see more of your cars in this section please?

Nice Charley,

The Inducted Hood is great but I'm focusing on the V75 Liquid Tire Chain Option! Looking at the amount of options makes me think this had to one of the most loaded Camaros ever assembled. Enjoy it for the rest of us.

Charlie, fantasic car! Is there a date on the window sticker or other docs? The pic is a little fuzzie, but it looks like this car is 300 cars past mine. L5303xx. I am pretty sure both cars were made after the strike at VN right before the plant closed. Was you car built in June or July? It looks like they crammed all the leftover options on one car! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif But very nice score!

Charley Lillard
10-12-2008, 06:06 PM
No date on the sticker. It is a 05A car on the trim tag. It didn't sell until April 7 1970. That is as large a pic of the sticker that I could post. I can email them to someone that has a hosting account in order to post larger readable pics.

Incredible car! And the only known documented NK1 Cushioned Rim Steering wheel ever installed on a 69 Camaro! Up until this car, it was thought that no Camaros ever had that steering wheel installed. Add to that the Vigilite and Liquid Tire Chain, power windows, ZL2, etc. I have only seen 1 other 69 with a 2 page window sticker.

Charlie, sorry about the extra pic. I did not hear from you, so I figured you wanted it.

Here is the numbers (which dont make any sense)

VIN 334 cars different, body number 6693 diifference, LA code (based on 210 car per period) 582 difference. I think we need more data points http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Why is there no charge for the orange houndstooth? Is it part of the SS or RS package or could any Camaro get that for free? (I would think there would many more if that were the case) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

10-13-2008, 06:53 AM
69SSZL1, given the fact that your car has so many similarities, how's about posting pics of your car and any documentation you have? What motor did yours have? How many options does your car have in common besides ZL2, Endura, fiber optics, etc. I wonder if they were ordered as a pair, with that much in common and such similar build dates. There's a story there. When did your car migrate out of WA state? Charley's rig stayed here its whole life, until he got it anyway. Now they're both in CA..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Charley.gif

South Tacoma Motor Company must have been the biggest Chevrolet dealer in Tacoma. The building is a sizable one, and currently houses a dealership/speed shop called Austin's Pro Max (owned by Walt's Radiator/Muffler founder Walt Austin and his dragster driving son Pat).

Mr70
10-13-2008, 07:28 AM
Why is there no charge for the orange houndstooth?

When you ordered a Z-87 custom interior, you had your choice of any color vinyl in deluxe attire,or a special houndstooth cloth & vinyl in either yellow or orange.
Page 2 of his window sticker shows the orange houndstooth charge of $110.60,which was gratis with the above notaded Z-87 custom interior.

So in (69) you could get a Cushion Steering Wheel on a Camaro. I was told that you couldn't,so the question is could you or couldn't you??? The reason i am asking is that i too have a Cushion Wheel.

I think that question is answered by looking at that original window sticker... indeed you could, although probably not til very late in production.

I did a internet search for the orig owner and mailed off two letters with a pic of the car. He just called me. He was delighted to know it still existed. In 1970 he was on his way to buy a 70 Charger green 440 RT Magnum and stopped and looked at this car first. While looking at the Charger he kept thinking about the Camaro. It was ordered by the sales manager as his personal demo but before it arrived he dropped dead of a heart attack. He said the car had just arrived right before he bought it. In 1974 he traded it back in at the same dealer towards a 1974 Caprice so he would have room for kids. It had 33,000 miles on it and they allowed him 3300.00 on the trade. He had never wrecked it but did get two tickets in one day going to a funeral. He had great traction problems in the winter that he solved by putting rocks in the trunk. He ditched the standard exhaust and had Midas install Cherry bombs with Triumph exhaust tips. He said the orig tires were Firestone redline tigerpaws. He then bought Michelin redline radials that used tubes. He said his wife said it was too peppy for her and I could hear her in the background agreeing. He doesn't think he took any pics of it back then but if he finds something he will mail it to me. He also said he waxed it every week. Pretty neat...

That's a cool car with great docs! I've only seen two documented cars with more options (1 68 and 1 69)

Yes, that's the first (and only) documented NK1 wheel. That wheel shows up on lots of cars, but I highly doubt that most of them came with it.

The tag pic isn't there anymore. I'd be interested to see it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks!

There was an NCRS event in Waco this weekend and we made a quick trip to see these cars. I was excited about seeing two new additions, the orange high option Camaro and the black 13,000 mile L78 Nova with bench seat and column shift. How about the white '60 Corvette with wonderful race history that came from Nickey Chevrolet? That car was in Waco for the NCRS show. The white '67 Corvette was purchased from the original owner from Indiana with 34,000 unrestored miles 7 years ago. None of these cars will be going to Chicago next month.

I was looking at this amazing window sticker, and I noticed the Zip Code was wrong for Tacoma WA?

My original paper work from the same dealer on June 28th 1969 is 98409. Zip codes do not change from 42379 to 98409 in the same year. Something is not right http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I believe 42379 is the dealer code, not the zip code. Can you post yours for comparison?

For example, "14000" was the dealer code for the DC/Maryland Zone Office and that was what was on my Z11 invoice in the exact same spot.

You are correct, I always thought the dealer code was on the right and the zip code was under the address, I only have an invoice, but I just started to look closely at stickers recently and now have learned. I withdraw my comments in shame http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Charley,

Do you still have this car from the South Tacoma Motor Company? I may have the sister car.

Was/is that car original paint? If it was mentioned earlier, I missed it. Before being discussed I figured that car was intentionally ordered as a zone rep or dealer manager demo. As cool as those loaded up cars are now, they were tough to sell as the price was so much higher than a car that looked very similar for a whole lot less money. A very cool car indeed!
