SCW restored the car. It was a 375 car new. The car was driven from Berger to Arons' shop and transplanted into a 427...BKH

One of the coolest cars to ever roll out of SCW.

We found that in Florida. The gentleman who owned it bought it directly from Dick Arons drag raced it and then just had it stored in his garage. It is one BAD Machine. Brian did a hell of a job with that car.

Real gold leaf/hand lettering. Not sure who did the brushwork, but this car has some amazing freehand details.

You guys are correct, the cAR was a 375hp 396. I drove the car from bergers in grand rapids which had the very loud low restriction exhaust and a 4:10 rear with the red stripe tiger paw tires to our little back alley garage in west detroit where in a matter of couple hours had the engine four speed and rear end laid out on the floor. Arons built a spec engine for the car that we ran for the entire life as a SS/E
It originally was an automatic 400 turbo but I had trouble running the auto matic the style Dick liked to drive, so I put the four speed back in it and that's the way it stayed after he liked the way I handled the four speed, which performed just fine to my liking also. the car could run on a good track a best of 10:82 off a 11:04 record at the time. Dick sold the car to Dick Woverton in Jacksonville Fl the end of the 69 season and the 68 which was painted the same and the one he drove the most with a 396 325 hp automatic trans.Don't remember who bought the 68 but it was a nice unit also.

Hmmmm, Gordy Foust. That name's vaguely familiar. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif
I wonder just how many times that name has appeared in magazines and NHRA/AHRA publications over the years? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif
Welcome aboard Sir.

Hey Gordie, how you doing, bud?
I sure do remember that back alley garage and how frosty that thing was in the winter, especially the concrete floor when changing motors and transmissions. I figure Ma Bell is still after Dick for hooking a pirate line to the overhead wire behind the garage.
Had a long talk with Maskin a while ago, same with Ben Wenzel recently. Big M filled me in on Heidi. That was sad to hear.
Send me a PM when you get around to it.
Lance
