Wow! A Crocus Yellow '65 L-79 Chevelle! One of my favorite "under-the-rader" Musclecars that was totally overshadowed by the super-rare Z-16 396-375 Chevelles that recieved ALL of the attention back in 1965. What I wouldn't give to jump in a time machine and order a brand-new '65 Chevelle 300 2-door sedan with an L-79 327-350 HP, 4-Speed!

----Always loved the 1965 Chevelle/327/350 package and this car just proves why. Wondering if it was a misprint about 327/300 early in the article. Must be, right???.....Bill S

kevin, that car looks great.
It is hard to look at this cause I just helped my friend sell his same color 65 convert, and I knew if it was restored it would look great.
These cars are just the right size, not too big, fun to drive.
I atleast had a summer with one of these and loved it.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, and to you Mike for the post. The car was delivered to Success Motors in Tahlequah, OK in late July 1965. Car took so long to come in, the man that ordered it gave up and took a 65 442 instead.
Story should read the biggest 65 Chevelle engine was a 327/300, and they couldn't keep up with GTO's etc., so later in the model year they came up with the approval to put the L79 Corvette motor in as the top option.

In 65, my buddy's older brother had a 65 Chevelle 300 deluxe sedan with the l79, digger gears and no radio. I always wanted to get one of these things, and finally had to settle for the SS and did a frame off to get it the way I wanted it.

And if that isn't enough, check out the latest issue of Hemmings Classic Car, which features another one of Mr. DeWittes fine cars, a 1965 396/425 all original Corvette!

Neat to see excellent coverage for a great guy...with some outstanding cars!

See you in November??? (nudge-nudge-peer-pressure-nudge-nudge)
