I thought this might be a fun thread to do. Post what you think is a good cruising song, but try to keep them in the 1970's or earlier.

I'll start with what I think is the all time best: Stranglehold

Just heard that one on 93.3 WMMR today around 11:30.

Seems like the movie Dased and Confused would be a good reference here. I think that was set about 1973.

Yeah. I'm laid up in bed right now with a pulled back muscle, watching Dazed and Confused.
It pee's me off everytime I hear Matthew Mcconaughey say "watch the leather" as the guy gets in the Chevelle.

You are right Mike, it took too long for them to be mentioned. I loved the Beach Boys before I realized I loved cars. It was cool to start learning about them asking my Mom and Dad what different parts of thier lyrics meant.

Probably the only thing that ever made me want a Corvette was "Shut Down"

----Had a job in the early 80s that involved delivering front-end loader buckets among many other duties for an old, old friend. I would probably pay money to be able to erase those memories, but I used to listen, almost exclusively to "The Cars" at almost ear-searing volumes during those deliveries. Thats what kept me going back then, sad as it sounds. Still like "The Cars" though,,,,,,,in limited volumes anymore.....Bill S

If you want to do like the cool kids and actualy show the video in your post follow me:

type the [ bracket next to your letter P key, then type "video:youtube" without the quotes and then end it with the closed bracket ]

next paste your youtube link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKxZY0DIxIk

and then end it with the bracket[ with /video and end bracket

It will look like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKxZY0DIxIk

Now if I take the spaces out between the ] http...k[ it then looks like this:

Was not a big music person growing up, thus have no real 'roots' in a particular genre - but my current best driving tunes would have to be Kansas! Their greatest hits CD is very good.

Hey Mrs Billy, Thanks for agreeing with me but that Radar Love video is a dub. I know that song VERY well. 1st, it was cut to leave out the organ part (only about 4 bars) and there's only one singer in the clip. The real song had female back-ups, a trombone, 2 trumpets, and maybe another horn. You can hear all that in the video (from the original recording), but they sure ain't there!

It's still my favorite song of all time (other than Car Crazy Cutie by the Beach Boys. No one EVER plays that song. It's done without instrumental in a raw garage band style. It's the Boys at their basic best. "she's hip to everything man from customs to rails, she's got axle grease embedded 'neath her finger nails".....oohhh oh yeah!

Day 2 is Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams, but the "hopped up" version by MXPX shouldn't be missed! You could crash some gears with that version. *Paul * Take it Easy by the Eagles is a great song to listen to, but compared to some of the other selections it sounds like easy listening.

A whole different grunge group showed respect for the Camaro in "Wish List" by Pearl Jam. Some slightly older songs like, Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing", The Hooters "And we Danced", and the one that hums with the carburators is Robert Palmer's "Bad Case of Loving You". Try some of these on your tape deck, cassette player or i-pod. John Mellencamp's "Cherry Bomb" is a nostalgic look back and everyone can sing the words. Cruisin' cars and music go well together. *Paul

If we can listen to Pearl Jam and J.M's "Cherry Bomb" in our Day 2 cars, then that also means we can install a first edition Hurst line lock and a set of Cragar SST's and none of youz guyz will be saying "pick a time frame and stick with it".....right?

OK, admit it, ...... we weren't always cruisin' in the cars. Sometimes we headed out of town to watch the submarine races. No matter where we were, the radio was still on. Hard to beat a 60's group with a Telecaster, a Hammond B-3 and a Fine lookin' Blonde vocalist. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

I'll preface this by stating that I was born in 1972. However...

I prefer '60s Garage rock when I'm out beating on the Muncie in my Chevy II

The Seeds - Pushin' too hard
The Count Five - Psychotic Reaction
The Standells - Dirty Water
Paul Revere and the Raiders, etc, etc, etc

I find the Rhino Records Box set "Nuggets: Artyfacts from the first Psychedelic era - 1965-1968" in constant rotation while working in the garage. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Deep Purple's Highway Star has to be just about the epitome, with an ode to the car preceding anything about his girl or his mind.

D'oh! How could I leave out the Animals' awesome Hey Gyp, with its Bo Diddley beat and 3 automotive callouts, all wrapped in an overarching plea to get laid.

"I'll buy you a Chevrolet, buy you a Chevrolet, BUY YOU A CHEVROLET if you just gimme some of your love, now"

As long as we're talking old songs and cars, this is an awesome clip featuring a jam version of the Hey Gyp. The auto racing clips, the '67 Shelby Mustang, and the girl are all worth the watch. Great snapshot in time. At least I think it is-it was done two years before I was born:)

What about these guys??? I saw them in concert three years ago.. They were with .38 Special... Awesome Show!! Lots of people (Old Hippies) firing up FATTIES when they took the stage.. It was comical, I wish I would have had my camera... This is the right music to be playing on the 8 track while cruising your 69 or 70 Muscle!!!

I saw them in Palatine, in 1970? They were downtown, opening up a new :head shop: <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif called 26 North (or maybe it was 36 North?)

Anyways, they were really good live. Lead singer has a pretty distinctive voice...
