Bought this car 20 years ago. Got ss 396 emblems all over it. Appears to be old race car. Has got Frenchs starters and alternators painted on the quarter panel. Also says winter hawk 87 by rear marker light.Old roll cage and one bucket seat. Also has 12 bolt with spool, boxed rear control arms and disk brakes with 2 peice rotors. Pretty clean old car except for someone removing some of the metal in attemps to lighten it up. Yea its still sitting in the garage in this conditon waiting its turn.

Cool! What is the original color of the car? Post a picture of the trim tag.

The original color is Cortz Silver I beleive. I was told its a 300 deluxe 2 door hardtop. Beleive the vin starts with 13437. Id have to go and get a pic of trim tag to be sure on the vin.

Mike,

That`s a rare Chevelle. There are only a handful of 300 Deluxe SS396 Coupes out there...the Post Sedan`s are even fewer. I assume any of the original 300 Deluxe interior is long gone?

Please email me a picture of your trim tag and VIN. Glad to help.

Yea the only thind left of the interior when i bought the car was the dash pad the steering column and 1 after market bucket seat. Tried to trace its owners but went back 2 owners to a guy in lapeer michigan and he wont answer the phone or return my calls. I know hes still around ( his voice is on the recorder) but will not return my calls. Gonna have to check the rear end codes.

Was the steering column a three on the tree, an automatic or 4 speed (possibly even a 3 speed)

The steering column is for a manual trans car, also the car has a clutch pedal in it. Car also has dual piston front calipers and an ancient line lock on it with manual brakes and manual steering.

After posting this thread a YSC member ( PostSedan)started asking questions so I started digging around the car after 20 years of it sitting in my garage and not being sure if the car is really a 300 deluxe 2 door hardtop ss 396. What we found!

The cars 12 bolt is coded KF --0529f-- (3:55 posi) Has boxed lower control arms with the braces running from the upper control arms to the frame. The car has 2 peice front rotors in the front an ancient hurst line lock and the master cylinder is coded BA. The car also has the big block steering shaft. The car has all the right ss 396 emblems. The front ss 396 grill does not have the peice of trim the runs down the center that is true to the 300 deluxe cars. The car does have a clutch pedal in it with a floor shift steering column.
I gotta say thanks to Postsedan(Dan)for poking around and gettin me motivated. Thanks Dan

How about posting some pics of all that you found....if you have trouble posting the pics....email them to me...I`ll get them posted for you.

Another cool thing about Mike`s SS396 300 Deluxe Coupe, is it`s a Fremont Built Chevelle and has #752 Black Vinyl Bench Seat Interior.

Mike, I`m a bit bias....but I say you should restore this 1969 Cortez Silver SS396 300 Deluxe first over your Black SS396 Chevelle.

Yea unfortunately the black car is so much further along since it had a frame off right before the accident that tore up the front end. All that's left to finish the black SS is the front clip and windsheild and being my camaro is a little radical for the street the black car will be done come spring. I need something to drive to the local cruise nights. Since chatting with you Dan the ss396 300 deluxe will definately be on the rotiserrie real soon. It's sat long enough. The plan is and always has been to make this car a serious street/strip car but very original to the naked eye. and it will be back cortz silver.

I got a question on the white stripe in the front and back seats of this silver 300 ss. The stripe is that only on the 300 deluxe, this being the second 300 car i seen it on. The other being the garnet red Berger 300 post on this site.

Mike,

Correct, the entire interior is completely different on a 1969 300 Deluxe.

They only came in Blue Cloth, Green Cloth, Black Cloth and Black Vinyl....ALL bench seats ONLY.

I repectfully disagree with this statement. I've seen the steel and padded in coupes. I think it was more to do with the new safety regulations that hit the books in the 69 model year.

I think it also could have been what they had on hand that day they assembled the cars.
Rick Pauley (Rixls6) has two post cars
1) red 300 dlx post - Padded
2) silver SS post - Steel

I`ve seen enough "original" Survivor Post Sedans to make my own opinions. What you decide to put in your Post Sedan you do what makes you happy.

Ricks Garnet Red Post Sedan is very original. Who`s to say that the previous owners of Ricks Cortez Silver Post Sedan did not change them out.....as they became very sun damaged and dry rotted very quickly. Trying to find a set of original padded ones that are not cracked is very difficult. They were very poorly constructed. These are the facts.

I might have mis-remembered (like roger clemens) on my first statement. There also is a general consensus that sometime mid-model-year 1969 the padded covers changed to steel.
Van Hurst's 68 post sedan has padded and he said all 68 chevelles were padded coupe or post.

I was wondering where i can start gathering the interior for this car from. I think Postsedan Dan mention one place where it could be bought but dont remember exactly what he said. Also since the car was striped down to a roller when i bought it, Im gonna start gathering date coded engine parts for the car. The trim tag said i beleive it was assembled in may. My question is what would be the exceptable dates for this car. I hope i worded that right. Thanks

Start making a list of all the parts you may need....place wanted parts under the "Wanted Section" on here and on Team Chevelle.

So I need some help. Once again I'm gonna try and track down some history on this car. I posted ads across the country basically on craigslist looking for anyone that might remember the car. I got a response back from a gentlemen that said the guy that use to race the cars name was Jerry Allen . The email contained the phone number and address for Jerry. The gentlemen that emailed me told me the guys name I bought it from also. He also stated that Dave ( the guy I bought it from) , Jerry ( the guy Dave bought it from) and Clayton ( the guy that emailed me off one of my adds) all still hang out. He also stated that Jerry still races and is a great out going guy. However I have called Jerry three times and left messages on his recorder explaining who I am and what I was looking for. I never got a return call. So I was wondering do I try and send him a letter explaining my intentions with a couple pictures of the car. I'm just looking for any history on the car. Any thoughts or ideas?

I crawled under this old beast yesterday to get the dated code off the center section to try and verify if the rear is possibly original to this car! Well I don’t believe it has a date cast into the back passenger side of the center section. The axle tube reads Kf. 0529 F
E
So that stamped date I think reads may 29 correct ? Would the date that’s usually cast into the center be some place else? My other Fremont built chevelle has it cast in the center section.

Jonesy
12-12-2019, 12:15 PM
Thats the rear axle tube stamping. Rear was built May 29th.

KF = 3.55:1 ~ 12-bolt Positraction, large ring gear (L35/396, L34/396, & L78/396)*

The pumpkin will have a casting date code on it.

Chevyman0429,

I was wanting to understand, did the car originally come with wheel well moldings like other SS cars or because it was a 300 deluxe did they drop those? Maybe PostSedan has the information on this? I only ask as I have a hugger orange 300 deluxe SS and have been back and forth with my dad on wether I should pick up an OEM set or not.

Rick,

I cant say if it did or didnt. I purchased the car from a guy that lived in Gladstone, IL. I cant recall if he was the person that bought it from ebay when it was known on this site a few years back. The car is Baltimre built and then was sold in Newport News VA. Funny how it made its way to Az and then back across the country.

All SS396, Z25 equipped chevelles in '69 received the wheel well moldings no matter if they were 13427, 13437, 13637, 13667, or 13680 models. Chevy pierced the upper 5 holes in the fenders and quarters, but drilled the rest of the holes when the moldings were required. When I say drilled, they were drilled with the self tapping screws for the moldings. So the moldings were located with the upper 5, then the linesman would self tap the rest following the molding. Also, the oem moldings have the upper center hole as just that, a hole. The rest are slotted. The repops are all slotted, including the upper center.

Alrite crawled back under this car looking for a cast date in the center section! It is not there as seen in the pictures. Did they cast the dates in different locations? Here the pics

All the years I’ve owned this car everything pointed to it being a real SS. Car has all the SS emblems, disk brakes, big block steering shaft, 12 bolt, the rear trailing arm reinforcement brackets and a ss hood but not the ss trim bar across the top of the glove box. For some reason or the other I thought it said Malibu but a couple months back I happen to walk by the car and glance over to see in fact it did not say Malibu it had been painted over with flat black spray paint. So I grabbed so goof off and started rubbing away and sure enough turns out it also says SS396. First picture u can still see the black paint on it second picture is it completely cleaned up and it’s flawless.

I am looking for a 69 Hugger Orange Deluxe 300, seen the one you had on the thread. Long shot, but do you still have the car and would you be interested in selling. I had the exact car when I was 16, sold in 1976.

I do. Mine also had the holes but my car was wrecked and repainted and I was suspect that any previous owner could have added them. This car was talked about on the website here years ago. I managed to come across it and pick it up for cheap. It looks rough, but is actually very solid in the floors and trunk. It will take some work but will be a top end show car when im finished.

Any chance this car may be available. Had one just like it in 1975.
