Well, I can ay only good things about the Goodings. That car sounds like pretty good money to me, judging by the one photo which shows the wrong color wheels for 1971. Now, maybe the owner/restorer wanted it that way, but technically, they are incorrect. Easily corrected.

1970 Rally 350 and Indy Pace car had body colored wheels.

I am aware we are discussing a 71 W30 that had several options of wheels. I am adding to the post that Body colored wheels were first introduced in 1970 on two specific models and option groups.

I have seen this car floating around before. Is there any mention of quality documentation? Truthfully, I am surprised it sold for as much as it did looking at the car. The 1971 4spd W-30 convertible is the dream car for many Olds enthusiasts, but I am not sure this specific car &amp; color combo would do it for me.<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif That is just my opinion though. I've never seen any docs on this particular W30. Was told it was at the Olds Nationals prior to restoration years ago and the broadcast card was found in the car at that time.

I think the color combo is desirable '71, along with Viking Blue.

Colored SS111 actually code N67 appeared in 1972. The wheels on the car pictured should be a darker type gray.

SSIII wheels first appeared in '71, so if the year of their debut is the issue, then the car is correct.

I stand corrected, and you are indeed right. Introduced in 1971 was SSlll----available as painted body color. I apologize for my mistake.

As for the Rallye350 and the PaceCars, those color coded wheels were part of the entire option that was a Rallye350 or PaceCar.

That was pretty big money for a 71 color option similar to mine. Did not say if it was a M-22 4 speed car like my 71. I am surprised they did not mention the M-22 rock crusher was a one year only option for the 442. Lee

Oldsmobile used the Muncie M-21s for W-30s until 1970. In 1971 they went with the M-22s for the W-30s.

I am afraid I am going to have to do a &quot;I thought&quot; on you here. In 1971 you had a transmission choice with the 442 and W-30. Neither came standard with the M-22. I am going to have to defer to my friend Paul the keeper of the 1971 w-30 list for this fun fact. Oldsmobile buyers did not want a noisy transmission in their luxury performance cars so they were discontinued for 1972. My friend John has a M-22 in his 71 but I recall a few don't have the M-22. All the info I have gathered shows ANY 1971 W30 car I have ever gathered info had the M22. Thats not to say there were not some that got the M20. I have heard of one instance where a regular 442 had a M22 however according to spec sheets it appears a W30 could be ordered with either trans as could a regular 442. A friens 72 W30 has an M20.

Great information…I have always thought the 71 W-30s were required to carry the M-22. However, it makes sense that they would also offer alternatives. I have read before that one of the 1970 Rallye 350 cars carried an M-22 from the factory according to the Olds Historical Center. Then did Oldsmobile also offer the M-22 on the 1970 W-30, as an optional transmission for those in the know? I have also heard that many drag racers actually preferred the M-21 to the M-22.
