Hey Olds Guru's,

Anybody know how to "Read" Olds wheels? I'm getting ready for Jefferson next weekend and I found 3 Olds 14" Wheels I have that look like chrome faced Super Sport wheels off a 1970 SS Chevelle, 1969 SS Camaro, or 1969/70 SS Nova. Maybe 1968 or 1969 442? What numbers/ID codes there, are on the rim edge above the valve stem, not next to the valve stem like a Kelsy / Hayes Chevrolet wheel. Where is Greg Goden when I need him, can't seem to find his number, I know it's around here somewhere.... Appreciate any help I can get

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

They can also be Buick 14" Sport Wheels? See you at Jefferson <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Dan,

I never thought of them being Buick. Never had them on my 1969 Stage 1 car. Any idea on the codes or dating sequence? See you @ Jefferson, I will be in the same spots. I'm Bringing (2) 1970 SS395 ....854 motors, 1 is a d 70 CE, & the other is a CTW J 69 if you know anyone who is in the need for a correct 1970 SS 396 motor.

WO coded 14X6 rims are Buick wheels.
LZ coded 14X6 rims are Oldsmobile wheels.
They are both frequently hijacked and represented as 1969/70 Super Sport YA or AO coded wheels.
They are stamped out like 69-70 SS wheel, but had satin chrome spokes and the rest of the wheel was painted black.
The Olds center cap looks like the SS,but has a small lip at the base of the cap and of course,an Olds emblem in it.
Buick center cap is much smaller & shallower w/their logo.

Thanks for the info Rick.

I believe the 3 I have are 14 X 7 with no code markings by the valve stem, only some random numbers and letters on the outer perimeter of the rim. All 3 are chrome spokes.

Sorry,yes.
Meant 14 X 7,not 14 X 6 in my earlier reply.

The Buick wheels have "dips" or are shaped concave on the spokes. If you had what you know to be a Buick wheel and put it next to the others, you'll see what I'm saying.
