This is the only pie crust Moroso tire I have ever seen. I am thinking it is the 68/9 era during the Stahl/Moroso split. Any ideas what the "WTB" stands for? This is the only Moroso I have seen that did not have Drag Special on the side...BKH http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2013/05/full-10-4758-dsc_0011.jpg

WTB stands for Wholesale Tire and Battery. It was a Connecticut based tire warehouse with a very racer friendly speed parts division. It supplied many of the local speed shops of the day. I believed they were the "in" for Moroso to get into the drag tire business.

I belive the first Moroso WTBs were manufactured by Armstrong. I've got a set on my '68 L78 Nova which raced from 1968 to 1975 as a Super Stocker and later as a Modified Production car.

This is just a guess, but it could stand for weight bearing. All in relation to the stronger mounting bead. But like I said, strictly a guess. Someone else will probably chime in with the correct interpretation.

hey Sal, we need to see some pictures of your nova especially as a DIV-1 Modified Production car. I bet I have seen it years ago.

So your thinking they ceased the pie crust during the 69 time frame??

I would say yes or very close. I have a 1970 Honest Charley Catalog with the new design Moroso in it.

Cool, I had a email in to Moroso tech to find out more on the WTB....No answer from them yet. I'd love to learn more on the history of the "front" drag tires and the backstory between Stahl/Moroso in the early days. Way different marketing and networking to racers & speed shops in the 60's...
