Welcome aboard Dan <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Rare enough for you to begin a full restoration.

The other expert Nova guys will chime in.

There were 5.262 L78 Novas made in 1969...and only 682 had the M22 option...not sure how many L78's were burnished brown (not a lot though from what I've seen)...please post more pics and info when you can...good luck.

Cool piece. Any idea what the rear end ratio is?

Is the original L78 still in it, and intact?

In mye eyes it has 2 things going for it.. the color and the M22. Thats about it. A lot of 69-70 BB novas out there for sale and a lot 69-70 nova projects come up for sale becasue of the production numbers. Now if it was a 68 BB nova then thats a different story. But for some odd reason 68 BB cars which were a limited production run of 667 L78 cars and 234 L34 cars (totaling 901 1968 BB novas)just don't hold there ground for value. Being a past 68 BB Nova owner this always puzzles me. I would think lower production numbers would always hold more value?

Rare does not always = desirable by the masses.

I think the Super Sport script on the sides of teh '68s just looks awesome. A shame they didn't retain that for later years.

Welcome aboard Daniel, love your dad's car and very cool w/ the m22!
Looking forward to seeing more of what you have including rear axle stampings.
Are the documents you mention original dealer stuff or is this a Canada car w/ recent GM Vintage services paperwork?
Always nice to see a car's pedigree brought to light in pre-resto condition!

Isn't that the truth.... I just have to LOL because every auction I watch Ford,Chevy,Or Mopar the rarity or how many produced is always brought up. Who would want to own something different or rare when you can easily buy something everyone else has....

Sorry back to the original topic.

The original engine and trans are gone and we have the gm of Canada documents. Here is another picture of the car.

There were 5,233 Burnished Brown Nova's produced paint code 918 accounting for only 2.16% of all Nova colors produced.
Just some other info that may help the rarity question. Out of all the L78's produced: as you were already told only 682 had M22's, the rest of the L78's were broken up as follows: 64 3-speeds, 3751 M21's and 1009 3-speed automatics.

Just curious where you got the info on the breakdown of the transmissions with the L78 engine <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif I have been researching these cars for years and have never seen this data. You don't mention the M20 4spd...I would have thought that tranny would have a fairly high percentage of the total ??

**also your breakdown by tranny exceeds the total number of L78's built??

Total L78's shows 5262: 3-speeds: 64, 4-speeds: 4189, Automatics 1009 = 5262.

Never before know to exist book that I have access to, broken down by every RPO and then by ECL code. Sometimes by model.

Cool info. I always thought the th400 cars were approximately 20% of the total.

Any idea how many L78s in burnished brown?

Doesn't break down that granular, I supplied the Burnish Brown total for all Nova's that's the only way it breaks it down, same thing for interior codes.
