Charley Hutton has been restoring the Cherokee Camaro for the Brothers Collection and we will be debuting it at this years MCACN. If you don't know Charley he is known as one of the best painters in the Country with I think 4 or 5 Ridler award winning cars in his resume. Really really nice guy that we are delighted to have at this years MCACN.

Didn't Charley work for Boyd Coddington in the past? I think I remember him on the TV show?

Either way, welcome Charley <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

I think he was one of the only sane and non drama guys on the show. Very professional and detail oriented and belonged at a better shop. Glad he left.

Indeed, Charley Hutton's resume of great cars he has been involved with is mind blowing. Some woth Boyd, some with Chip Foose and many in his own shop, Charley hottons Color Studio. His low key demeanor is something that reflects his personality.

With MCACN, we always discuss celebrities that "fit" and don't put us into the carnival category like some shows. With Charley, we have an absolute Super Star that is also a genuiunely nice guy.

We are honored to have Charley as part of MCACN V and look forward to the Unveiling of the Cherokee on Saturday, November 23.

The Cherokee is a great piece of Camaro history so would be nice to see it with a top level resto

What color interior are they going with?

I think someone restored it with a black int to match the trim tag but Chevy had changed it to a red when doing the custom work?

The Brother's Collection Cherokee is a very special Camaro on many levels.

1) Its a Big Block RS/SS from GM.

2) Its a GM built Super Car, L78 transplant

3) GM Styling and Concept Car, with some features incorporated into later cars.

4) Can-Am Pace Car

5) Celebrity History

It will be worth the trip to MCACN, just to see this car and of course meet Charley.

also interesting it was custom built as a 1967 L78 TH400 car

predating the special order 1968 COPO L78 TH400 Chevy II

My understanding is that there was more than one Cherokee built. The earlier one had the red interior and turbine wheels. This is the only known surviving one. Charlie confirms this in details he has found upon dis-assembly. This is the car that is linked to Augie Pabst, Stirling Moss etc. The red interior car is in photo's that are earlier than this cars Trim Tag build date. There was also a yellow one pictured being pulled by a 67 Chevy pickup with Hide away headlights.

The yellow 67 Camaro with the 67 Chevy pickup was a drag car project. It does not look like it shares anything with the Cherokee. It's a coupe with American 5 spoke mags. Looks like a custom raised hood but not the same as the Cherokee hood.

The Cherokee in the CamAm pace car pic looks to have the custom turbine wheels, although it is hard to see them, they look to have the deeper offset like in the pic of the red interior Cherokee.
The red interior Cherokee has a prototype 1968 SS style stripe (nose & side) with body color mirrors, Std steering wheel, custom deeper offset turbine wheels, etc.
In the CamAm pic, looks to have pin stripes not the 68 SS stripe. The car was changed but hard to believe they made two as it looks like a custom made one off. They look too similar to be two differnt cars but hard to say for sure.

We are right on schedule with this one. I am told it is now out of the paint booth, and can only imagine what it looks like after Charley has done his magic.

Make it a point to see the cover come off of this notable Camaro when it is unveiled at the MCACN show Saturday morning, November 23.

Thanks go out to Charley Hutton and of course, The Brothers Collection for adding even more excitement to our show! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/youguysrock.gif

This is one of my favorite cars. In my office, I have a water color of this car leading the 1967 Road America Can Am race.

The paint was looking a bit tired, I'm looking forward to seeing it now. Love the hood.

And knowing Charley's talents with a paint gun, you know it is going to be a show-stopper!

This one is going to be fun.

I saw Charley walking around on Saturday while I was tending the LS6 Dave had just finished. I sure wish I had that mans talent when it came to paint!

I took some time to talk with Charley Hutton and I can say he is such a genuinely nice guy! He spoke of how he was rather intimidated by the restoration aspect of the Cheetah, since his forte was going all out and not even attempting to duplicate original finishes. He talked about how frustrating it was matching all the different percentage black colors that were under the hood of GM cars. I laughed and brought him over to my Formula and showed him that none of the original finishes matched each other, even the inner fenders have a non-matching gloss levels. He laughed and said he wished he had known that beforehand. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Sure looks like Charley L's arm got really long and is groping the model's right inner elbow. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif
