Besides Thrush, what are some muffler ideas?

Not mufflers but how about side pipes?

Side pipes only look good on a very short list of cars. Popular choices were Corvair Turbo mufflers, hemi mufflers, Cadillac mufflers, Walker Continentals, and even straight pipes with NO mufflers on many cars. Basically, it seems like any muffler with 2.500 inlet/outlet was a viable choice and that particular size pipe was considered large for many years!

Funny you said Walker Continentals. Last night I saw a set of blue ones on Ebay and the seller has a brief history listed about them. It made me consider those..lol

Cherry bombs have a nice gutsy tone and the current ones look very similar to vintage ones.

Those look cool, but I can't shake the Poser image I associate with glass packs, even the sound at WOT just isn't my thing.

Have you asked the guys in your area who are over 60? Seems trends were regional. The Corvair Turbo was popular around Willow Grove and the suburbs of Philly.

Thrush header mufflers or cherry bombs were the thing around here.
Definitely plan on mufflers at the header and nothing else. Back in the early 80's there was a Vega wagon that came to the local parking lot and only had headers mufflers on it. When he fired that thing up, the sound, the mufflers shaking and the smell of good fuel is an image that's etched in my mind.

Does anyone remember Walker "Royal Scot" mufflers? These looked like a typical glass pack shape, and were painted a dark red color IIRC.

I remember my Dad putting a pair on street rod he was building back in the late 70s / early 80s. Seems like these were the hot ticket with the local guys back around that time period.

I'm a fan of sidepipes on mainly 70-73 Camaros, but will make an exception for 74-77 Camaros as well.

Oh, and of course 2nd and 3rd Gen Corvettes, without question.

But, with kids, I am scared they'd burn themselves on them...

I like cherry bombs and the purple hornies.

I don't think I will ever invest again in flowmaster type exhausts.

glass packs all the way.
