The 1970 Action Performance catalog I have lists them as 64-69 Chevelle. They do have Cragar and the part number stamped into the flange. I look forward to seeing them redone. I think the blue will really set off an engine compartment. I just need to figure out the best refinish technique that lasts (paint or powder coat, etc.) and a paint match. Then, someone that is capable.

Yes, I got them off of ebay.

Thanks,
Marty

Here is another set I would like to share. Jeff Murphy's ZL1 Camaro. I don't know who manufactured them or what they are called, but I think they look awesome. I love the color contrst against the all aluminum engine. The simply look great! These are the only photos I have. I think you can get a general idea of what they would look like off the car? Perhaps others can chime in on some details.

Jeff Murphy
08-07-2013, 07:41 AM
Yes. Super Scavengers. They are equal length, so the ends of the pipes are staggered inside the long tube collectors, which is kinda of cool looking from underneath. The long tubes also make if seem like the exhaust is exiting right under the driver's seat which gives a great kick in the pants feeling. The other cool thing about these headers is that they turn dark, almost cherry or brick red, when the motor is running and then cool back to the orange seen in the pictures.

There may be an alpha numeric stamping on the external side of the one of the flanges that attaches to the head. This code can help you deternine the application and when/where (there were several plants over the years) the header was made.

I wanted a set of those for my small block and had Nathan Schmitt fabricate a set for me. He bought the dies from Bruce Wright and is now re-making these again. Yes indeed Freddie. The new Stroker should sound killer with a big solid cam and the 11:4 compression. I have another motor to run in next week and then the 383 will be setup with the Crossram. Once the carbs are tuned, the cam is broken in and the springs are changed up to doubles, I'll install these headers and make a nice little video of it on the run stand. Likely around Mid May

I have experience with the M/T Scavengers for a few Stage One Buicks back in 80's/90's- Nothing compares to that sound running uncorked with Hi-Po V8!
So if I can muster the funds for a set for '69 Z/28 in future, will they be easy to order since you paved the way as far as the R&D for these?
Do we call and ask for the Graeme Special??

Nathan was excellent to deal with and I highly recommend you call him if or when you need a set of headers made. Don't know if he made a pattern for these or one off'd them but they sure are sweet (pardon the pun).

Yes Bernhard,

I sent him a set of bungs and he welded them in. I have an Innovative 02 scanner for reading air fuel at idle and cruise so I will use it when setting up the Crossram carbs.

Uploading the video right now Freddie...

What I found really cool and had actually been forewarned about, was that the ceramic coat changes colors when you run them. They start out bright orange, go tomato red when being ran, and then they change back to orange as they cool. Now how cool is that?

I purchased these BBC headers from Chris Clark recently. We both thought they were Appliance because they looked exactly like ones for sale here on the Yenko site.

But when I looked up the part number on my headers, they were different than the Appliance headers, which were CH22. Mine are stamped 5022.

chevyandpontiac (Dan) looked up my part number and mine are actually Blackjack headers...so apparently, one company made headers for multiple companies.

Just thought it was an interesting story.

Mine are out of the way until I decide if I’m going to use them or not.

Its been awhile -- but I seem to remember Appliance Industries made the Blackjack headers ... TAZ

I always understood these two company’s to be one and the same. Appliance, I thought, evolved into Blackjack? I may be totally off, but I have owned both brands. Back in the late 70s ( I was only 3, mind you(age joke)), I worked at a speed shop. We sold Blackjack headers. I read every car magazine I could get my hands on, at the time. I don’t recall ever hearing about Appliance being advertised or used in the late 70s. Again, just my recollection, not a known fact. It has me believing one evolved to the other.

I think you are 100% correct. I worked at a local speed shop in Calgary in 1974/75 ( JB Auto ) and we sold & installed many Appliance headers, I had several sets myself , the first Appliance headers had welded non rotating collector flanges, later versions had the loose flanges. I noticed that Blackjack took over later 70,s/ early 80,s and later versions were alumicoated ?

I still have a set of 67-69 Camaro 302/350 #CH3 (2802) Appliance headers, very equal length nice fitting headers, 1&3/4” primary. I also used a set of Appliance headers on my 68 396/375 car back then. Appliance always seemed to fit nicer than Hooker headers & others back then, usually no modifications. JMO.

I just picked up these NOS, in the box, SBC Blackjack headers for 1963-1982 Corvette. They even came with all the hardware, decal and instructions.

Definitely looks like Mickey Thompson Super Scavanger Headers. Here are some part numbers that I found but I don’t see 76288.

Chevelle S/S 1965-68 396-427 PN 3876288

Based on the information/photos I've collected over the years - the shape of your headers look "dead-on" for original Chevelle. NICE SCORE!!!

Note: If I didn't already have a set being made for me by Nathan (Sweet Ave Fabrication) - I'd be drooling over these!!

Can I ask for some ID too? I brought home 2 sets today and I'd like to know what they fit and what brand they are. One set is small block with super long tubes and the other set is big block with large tubes. Small block flanges are stamped 1892 559A. I can't make out everything on the big block flanges, so I'l posting the picturtes.

Thanks Kurt. Seems like an odd application. Not many people putting big blocks in late '50s early '60s Chevys.

Any ideas about what the small block headers are?
