Thanks for the positive comments guys. The car had many S/C mods but I've removed all of them. Maybe lucky that I didn't like the first paint job because over time the original street configuration has gained appreciation and that gave me time to make the changes. What a pain though. As far as the interior goes it has the original seats, dash, guages, seat belts and lots of the carpet so it will remain black. The seats are better on this car than my 5,600 mile car that I sold at B-J in the 90s. That car was 3239.

PhilS
08-26-2014, 02:15 AM
You are correct Bill. There will be no stripes this time around and yes it is a pain to return one to pure street configuration. Actually much easier to go the other way. I'm very lucky that the trunk insert and dash did not get the S/C treatment. Original Armstrong shocks are present too. Try to find exhaust manifolds. They don't have a Ford part number. After a couple of misadventures in my old Cobra ( csx3239 ) I swore I'd never own one without a roll bar but times have changed and originality is more prized today than ever before so even the roll bar had to go.

Tim, good seeing you too. Yes it seems the street cars are getting some love finally. So many were converted and now many of those are being returned to original. For sure it will be interesting to see what happens with the B-J street car. Bill, about 100 cars were built with 428s with most of those being 3200 series. A few early 3300 cars also had them.

olredalert
12-21-2014, 03:12 PM
----I don't think so, Bill. The Carini car was in the New England area and the car pictured seems to have had a west coast history. ----Phil,,,While I was watching the Scottsdale craziness Carini came on and was interviewed beside a green 427 Cobra. Turns out that was the Cobra that was on his show. That Cobra should never have been touched other than fluffing. Every ounce of originality is gone. It was even repainted in "metallic" green rather than the correct solid BRG, and the beautiful original interior,,,,,,,GONE. Kind of made me sick as I remember Carini saying not to even wipe the dust off when it was on his show. All about chasing the dollar. The owner had every chance to make as much or more by leaving it original......Bill S

The late series 3300 cars were the only Cobras to get the 31 spline output shaft trans. The earlier cars got the hybrid 28 spline trans. The 010180 is out of my car and the 010184 is from 3346 which is probably the best low mile original out there. Never restored. These are the original inspection marks on both units.

Some odds and ends here. Decided my wiring harness is a little tired so I ordered a new one which I won't get until July. Thought my piston rings were on the way but are no longer in production so custom rings have to be ordered. In the mean time trying to get a lot of little things done but very slow going at this point. The original brake pads could have been reused. The two piston pads had practically no wear. The single piston pads had almost all of the wear at all 4 corners. Those shiny clamps are the original that we saved since they are no longer produced. They looked pretty rough when removed but cleaned up pretty good. They have a kind of tin plating that had corrosion but most came off. Calipers got new pistons.

Like everything, the S/Cs have been done to death (real and replicas) and now the money wants the unusual cars, the pure street versions. I've seen at least one new CSX 4000/6000 built to street specs.

It's been slow lately since I'm still looking for a few small pieces and haven't had a lot of time to work. I bought a new wiring harness from British Wiring. They make one for a 427 Cobra every few months so it was a pretty long wait. It is supposed to be totally accurate but there are a few problems with it. The brake cylinders were quite a problem with no seal kits for the very late cars which have a .750 bore as opposed to the earlier .625 for which kits are readily available. I finally bought new Girling masters which look different than the originals but are the same dimensions and swapped the guts into the originals. The pistons are a little different but seem to work fine. Pedal pressure seems about right. Someone makes return springs for brakes and clutch so that was easy. We made a new cover for the pedal box because the original was fairly worn out.

Those looked like offset dowel pins in the block, if so for those who do not know they are used in high end engine shops to move the combustion chamber or typically to unshroud a valve inside the cylinder in order to increase flow or increase agitation or swirl.

Most of the carpet is in just lacking one piece but have to install couple sheet metal nuts first. After mocking up the rest of the interior decided to replace dash covering. Water and oil temp gauges out for refurbishment and the others are getting new lenses etc.
