The mini-truck movement was in mid-stride in 1988. What did Steve do to those trucks as far as suspension or other performance mods? I think just about everything I see is spot on for the era and I dig it, well maybe the grille is a bit much. Otherwise, pretty cool!

I don't know much about them. They had suspension upgrades and I think a better exhaust system; otherwise the driveline was stock. I think they prototyped one with a 5.0, but that never went anywhere. Too bad, since a basic 2wd Ranger was a solid 300 pounds lighter than the lightest Mustang notch. Would've been an animal with a stock HO in it.

I know Saleen campaigned a few in a truck series SCCA had at the time. I've heard that a handful of "R Model" Rangers were available for purchase from Saleen, but I couldn't say if that's true or just another story, or what mods may have been done to them. Either way, neat little truck and definitely a product of the 80s mini-truck fad.

In 1988 Saleen did the same thing to the Ranger as they did to any Mustang.
upgrades were Racecraft suspension, Stereo upgrade, Ronel wheels, Saleen interior, Saleen dash with gauges, 15 piece body body kit was added to the truck, Saleen decals and numbered plaques were added to the truck .
there were a total of 27 Trucks built and 3 of them were race track only, leaving only 24 to the general public. they were all numbered and mine is #10.
They were all built the same white with blue interior (except one blue truck that Steve Saleen kept in his warehouse and used to pick parts and move them around with).
No changes were made to the driveline (same as any Saleen Mustang in 1988) They all were fuel injected 6 cyl with 5 speed OD.
there are only a couple of these trucks that are known to exsist today. One of the first built was a give away truck that was sold to a Company in Texas That owned a chain of department stores known as Leachmere the Company sent the truck to one of their stores in the Boston area to give away as a grand opening prize.
Several years ago when I saw a local Craigs list ad for a 1988 Saleen Ranger, I thought it was a joke, But for the $800 asking price I thought I would call. I asked the guy (he was 80 years old) how long he owned it? He replied since it was new in 1988. I then asked him, where he got it? He replied I won it at Leachmere's and I only filled out one ticket! I then had to go look to see it and there it was as it sits today in my drive way. This truck handles better then my new Mercedes Sl 550 ! It runs and drives amazing!
I am asked all the time, Why did you do that to that truck? I reply, I did not do anything to it, Steve Saleen did <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

A friend of mine, Mark Lamaskin is the person to talk to when it comes to anything Saleen. He owns Performance Autosport here in Richmond Va. Google his shop and touch base with him.
