Will the Brothers Collection scoop it up? Are you at liberty to discuss, Charley?

It would be nice....

Don't the Brothers already have 3 or something like that?

But they don't have a triple white one........

I think one 4-speed would be enough for me but, truth be told, I never fell in love with them. Gimme a Judge or RAIV ragtop instead!

This would be the only known 69 Trans Am convertible that has not been shown at MCACN.

That is...until this year, because it will be at our show November 21-22, along with another that was previously shown with us, but recently restored for The Brothers Collection by Level One Restorations in Arvada, Colorado.

Depends on who falls into the category of "known" .

They are all "known" now - 8th one recently traded hands and will be restored shortly.

On another note, I got to visit Rob Lozen's shop this past week when in town for the MCACN show - pick of his 1 of 8 below.

There will be two TA converts at Mecum.

Charley.....is Rob Lozen running his through the auction again? One of the two pictured on the Mecum site has the same IL plate as Rob's car pic from this thread so that's why I ask.

Charley Lillard

Yes...

I remember the last time Rob took his car to the auction and it was a no sale....he showed up the very next weekend driving this magnificent car to cruise night in Rolling Meadows IL....Rob is a brave man driving a million dollar plus car to cruise night considering the way people around here drive like idiots.....good luck with the sale Rob....I hope you get your number this time!

The Boss
11-25-2015, 06:58 PM
Rob doesn't want to sell it but agreed to have it there to create "hype" for the other one. He's put a high reserve on it and if it sells at that, he won't be disappointed.

Charley Lillard
11-25-2015, 07:06 PM
The other one has plenty of it's own hype.

Just relaying the conversation from Thursday night.

BTW, I'm the guy who was next to Jim Mattison and across from you at the bar on Friday night - I don't think we got introduced.

What is the story on the 8th TA convertible, where was it found? Is there any photos of it that have surfaced?

Charley Lillard
02-23-2016, 01:37 AM
Was found in Detroit. The fellow that had it bought it out of Canada years ago and had it stored. Being restored by Scott Tieman and will get unveiled at MCACN in November.

These are the eight 1969 Trans Am convertibles, their color schemes, and their original dealer destinations.

This chart is from an article I wrote about the 1969 Trans Am convertibles, published by the Pontiac-Oakland Club International, in January 2016.

The Canadian car that Charley is referring to is #3 on this list. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

That is very surprising that 3 of the 8 originally came to Canada! That chart is really neat, thanks for posting! Is the complete article you wrote available to read online?

That top would let all the cold in, in winter:-(

PS: I love the look of bias ply snow tires:-) A guy I used to work with had an L72 Impala back in the day and he used the snow tires for traction in summer:-)

Based on the chart the only blue top, blue custom interior, 4 speed. Would be my first choice of the bunch! Gorgeous! I don't recall ever seeing 69 firebirds with a blue convertible top. Was the blue top only available on the TA's?

So one was delivered to Edmonton, Alberta. Anyone know where in Canada the other two resided?

Canuck
02-25-2016, 09:36 PM
One resided in Vancouver for several years according to an article in Muscle Car Review back in the 80's. It may have been sold new here.
The two issued to GM of Canada may have been brass hat cars.

Thanks. I'm interested to hear if one ever resided in Ontario? If so, I never saw it!
The 69 TA's have always been rare and you don't see them very often.
What is a "Brass Hat" car? Built for GM Executive?

I first saw #6 around 1979. It was parked next to a machine shop I did business with at the time. Car was under a tarp and looked to be a drag car. Not for sale.

I believe a board member bought it shortly after that.

Yes, Brass Hat cars were for GM management. The cars were ordered by the GM employee to their specs. Then, it was to be driven by that exec. or another in that Zone or Sales Region. At the end of usage, usually 3-6 months and 3,000-6,000 miles it was shipped to whatever dealer had been chosen to do the delivery paperwork. There was a very significant price reduction and if memory serves me well, each employee was eligible to purchase two cars a year through this program/perk. When I was a kid selling new cars, I handled several deliveries. I think the dealer was paid a few hundred dollars for processing the paperwork and the salesman may have been paid $25.00. I met a lot of neat people doing it and I was the only "car guy" on the sales floor (the others sold cars as a means to an end). I would eagerly do as many as I could. The other salespeople finally figured out why I had more referrals and more people coming in and specifically asking for me.......it paid off, and I did get to meet a lot of neat people. I'm pretty sure GM limited the dealerships to only deliver the brand for which they had the franchise.
