OK...bought myself an oldsmobile..a 70 W 30. Correct me if Im wrong but I think there are three wheel options. 1. dog dish wheels with olds spec center caps. 2. The 5 spoke " olds" wheels with chrome trim around the spokes...and 3. a version of the " SS " wheel similar or the same as chevelle but with different codes. How am I doing??

thanks

This is reminiscent of myself a few short months ago:-)

If you go Dog Dish caps, you should spend the big bucks and buy XT code steel wheels and the 1970-72 dog dish caps are different than 1967-1969 the early ones had Oldsmobile script closer to the middle, yours will have Oldsmobile script near the outside. Fusicks sells repop they are really shiny, I am buying originals one by one, but have only three shiny so far.

The latter 1970 SS11's are 14 X 7 instead of 14 X 6 so the trim rings are large and have a large radius mine would be thin with sharp corner instead of the wide radius. The caps screw in later caps snap in... no good:-(

SS1's I don't know much about, but this website has very good detail and so far it has not been wrong. you have to use the chart to decide what you want to look at them go the NOTE number 6 for example lower in the sheet for the details. Nice site!!

http://www.oldsmobility.com/old/superstock.htm

Go Team-Oldsmobile!!!!!!

I am an XL if you find Dr Olds T-Shirt I am in, but not grey Mrs. Weaver says grey washes out my eye colour:-(

15 inch with 245-60-15 Puts some meat on the ground and fill the wheelhouse nicely. !5x7 were found on a lot of Cutlass, MonteCarlo etc from 75-77.

Wheel Options for Olds Cutlass from 70-72 were as follows.
14x7 steel wheels, coded XT or IF, either are interchangeable. In 1972 if you ordered the wire wheel covers you automatically got the 14x7 IF as they were about 1/8 deeper on the spider and the wire wheel cover needed this extra clearance. If you tried to use the wire wheel cover on an XT it bottomed out.
SSI, this is the magnum style wheel, 5 chrome spoke, black rim with trim ring. Chevelle Wheels are painted silver, not chrome. Both use the same chrome center cap. For a brief time in 1971 these wheels were all Chrome due to inventory shortage of the regular production wheel.
SSII, these are the Olds Rallye Wheels with the 5 oval openings used with trim ring and painted argent for 1970. You cold only get body colored wheels in 1970 on a Pace Car or Rally 350.
SSIII,Probably the most common Olds wheel, as a SSIII these were always painted body color and were available for the next 15 years in either 14x7 or 14x6 in the 80's. Two types of bezel opening trim were used. They were also available as 15x7 in 1975-75 with the bolt on cap and from 1976 and later had the snap on cap.

In summary, authenticity NO No's

Painted SSIII on a 1970 other than Pace Car and Rally 350
Chevelle painted SSI on any 70-72.
All chrome SSI on a 70 or 72.

Hope this helps.

</div></div> Also the small center cap on the 5 spoke wheels will resemble the chevelle caps but olds caps had a small raised beltline around the base of the cap. You can always tell a chevy cap on an olds wheel as the decal was just changed.

Doggy style for sure, always when a Post car!
Not original but a set of old chrome reverse rims blasted/painted body color w/ the dog caps would look cool, especially @ the rear!

SSI is the smaller magnum 500 style like the Chevelle, Buick ect. wheel. The SSII (14&quot;) &amp; SSIII (15&quot;) are the fatter 5 spoke wheel with inserts between the spokes painted body color or argent gray. or the standard steel wheel with dog dishes. All wheels are steel as well. I have a set of 15&quot; SSIII's on mine right now painted black but also looking for a set of standard wheels with dog dishes and paint them body color.

if you are referring to plain steel wheels then yes. I have a set of IF stamped 14x7 steel wheels from a 71 442 that were under full wheelcovers. My understanding is while they look like a XT wheel, they were for wheelcover designation.

If you are going to the Pure Stock drags, you need the original diameter rim, but can go one letter larger... except that G70-14 is as large as you can go on a 14&quot; tire. If you are needing rubber, give me a call. My cell is 816-654-3400.

White Stripe G70-14 with dog dishes????

My grandfather had a '70 cutlass supreme sedan in bamboo w/burnished gold vinyl top, ivory or whitish cream bench interior. Had wheel covers &quot;C&quot; and &quot;E&quot; by the advertising Olds had for the '70 production year. She had 63k when my grandmother sold it back in the early '90's. Ahhhh the memories
