the latest one with the 72 roadrunner on the cover has a must read section all about the L78, and all the horse power you can get out of it, etc, they actually ran a stock engine, and then put a few performance mods on it. If you have a L78 you should get yourself a copy.

That is a very good article read it three times. Really impressive numbers for a 396

I bought that issue for the article....impressive dyno numbers, but some of their tech stuff is incorrect.

The 396 was/is not as weak as many think it is compared to its larger siblings.. Long live the baby big block!!

BTW 840's nearby on the rack. Bare (GMPP's) Alums could be a possibility but chamber matching issues.

Brings up a discussion point, Can special order ($$$$) pistons be obtained to use the later OPEN chamber Head on the little 396? efficiency be dammed. Is It possible, COPE Brother Machine in Tacoma will possibly be my builder.

Good Question for Eric I think.

I used Honest Performance in Federal Way for my L78 and they did a great job.
