Trunk mat came with deluxe interior package along with extra sound deadening. That mat as a lot of sheen to it, that most original do not. Mike on the underside is there a part #

bkhpah

When you look at the mat, there are also sound deading mats placed on the trunk floor, similar to the sound deading mats found on the floor pans under the carpets..BKH

mike1971
10-17-2016, 07:41 PM
I do know the Sound deading is not present.

Steve Shauger
10-17-2016, 08:15 PM
Mike, unless the car came with deluxe interior the additional sound deadening shouldn't be there. I suspect a previous owner installed mat at some point.

mike1971
10-17-2016, 09:31 PM
Ok Steve thanks. The mat just looks like it been there for a while.maybe pulled from another car at some point. Are there date codes on the mat?

bkhpah
10-17-2016, 10:20 PM
It's been my experience in the past that cars with trunk mats are very prone to rust. Moisture gets trapped under the mat and has no way to escape. If it were my car, the mat would be removed and stored. IMO...BKH

If you look close at the photo you see some silver overspray onto the black near the oval holes.

I was hoping my memory was better than it was.. I thought the HO car in this Jim Reed post card pic was Garnet with a black VT but I was wrong.. Still cool pic from Feb -March of 69. We are pretty confident that the LB Z in the background is a buddy of mine that still owns the car and triple black SS Chevelle is another friends car but its whereabouts is unknown.

Re 'finger style trims': My 09C Z28 came with the 4 clip trims originally, but in the late 70's, after purchase of a new 1977 Monte Carlo, I 'swapped' the trims between the two cars (because the '69 trims had a few dents <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif... so my original wheels also have scratches from the finger style trims. Fortunately, before selling the MC, I swapped the trims back... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif with the great proliferation of Monte Carlos throughout the '70's, I suspect I was not the only Z28 owner who did that.

Does the 'possibly original' spare tire have a date code on it? re dates, doesn't that 12/17/68 YH wheel correspond to the *earliest* YH we have seen??

mike1971
10-18-2016, 01:27 PM
Can someone decode the date?http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/10/full-19961-50676-20161017_215941.jpg

Looking real good Mike! I think you stumbled in to something there, Bro.! Cars like that aren't falling out of the cherry tree everyday; I'd hang on to it for a while if I were you. What is the build time? And, as much as I like Day 2 stuff (and I know you do as well), it would be a crime to alter that one. Judging from the pictures, there isn't too much to complain about Sir.

mike1971
10-24-2016, 03:52 PM
I agree Dave this car is a tough one to Day 2! I took her for a Sunday drive yesterday and other than the tires having some flat spots from sitting.302 with the 4.10 pulls pretty darn good! LOL.

Yeah Mark my car has 47 years of road grime under it i plan on wiping some more to see what other markings are present. It needs a good Pressure wash but im afraid of blowing the markings off LOL .

Don't pressure wash a survivor car. I ended up just putting my Fiebird up on tall truck jackstands and spending several weekends under it with rags with a bit of little diesel fuel on them. It worked great and was very forgiving on any paint markings you might come across that you didn't know were there. Pressure washing will remove a lot of stuff along with the grease and grime. It's great for prepping the uderside during a restoration but not good for preservation.

Tim the Gasket look to be paper

Mr.Nickey Nova
03-11-2017, 03:34 PM
Those original paper gaskets always leak and stains the paint. I use the rubber gasket newer NOS cap with no problems.
