One phone call on a Saturday afternoon from a my buddy .September 2014 Set the tone for the next three years .
Old 67 camaro going to scrap yard ? It mite be a super sport ? Has traction bar plate on the floor ? Red and black?
I'll take it ! If I only knew what I just fell into , I would have gone and bought a dozen lottery tickets !
NCRS report were now available , my good friend, volunteered to send my VIN number in for me . The wait was over , the letter was in . A call.was made . Curiosity was over . Letter was opened, 12/30/1966 code 411 zone 11 , NICKEY chevrolet.
Fast forward to Friday morning 7 am November 17 2017Chicago . Pulled into Stephen convention center, Rosemont il.with my restored #6 1967 nickey z/28. Bolero red .
A sweet home coming after 50 years , first time back to Chicago. Rolled out of the trailer , and hit the ground. Talk about a sweet morning ! It's all good from here.

Very nice...thanks for sharing!

Assuming it is a 4P car, what lead you to discover it was a Z28?

ktcamaro67

Thanks. correct, coded 4p. After NCRS report , contacted Jerry Macneish , he confirmed to be z28 . List as 222 car in the registry.

When we loaded the car up to bring it home Kirt & I noticed a curious detail on an assumed SS car. We noticed the lack of a gas cap retaining stud hole on an original muncie 4 speed car. In other words the gas filler pipe had all 4 of its retaining screws in place meaning a standard ( non RS or SS ) gas cap. We decided to research it further, contact J.M. and John Mello to get their opinions. After sending more proof we were presented with the good news. If it had been RS equipped we would have had no clue this was anything other than an SS. To think this car was a minute detail away from being lost forever.

Nice eye for details to notice that! Very lucky that you guys found it vs someone else who might have missed that...

Thanks guys for all the great input ! I forgot about that detail when investigating the shell dave .
Then I was trying to figure out why there was no holes in firewall for groundstraps? Asked jon , said radio delete car. Still learning about the car .

I was really glad you were able to make it to the show this year with your car, Kirt. This 50-year anniversary celebration was really awesome. Great group of owners and lots of fun. I hope we can find a way to top it someday.

Thanks for the kind words about the show; Jon did a tremendous job of gathering a fine group, and kudos to each and every one of the owners for joining us.

What a great story!
