Hey Tim! Pete said you and JJ are all ready to head to Ohio...any truth to that http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif?

Any word on whether Pete's gonna be able to make it to baby sit you & JJ? Is your dad gonna make the trip?

Picked up the rear and tranny today...just a matter of bolting them in!

Well, 4.56s and new tranny are in. Shifts are now "crisp" and the rear is finally acting as it should have all along. Feels a LOT quicker than before. Now, if only we could actually drive that darn thing... http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/burnout.gif

Yeah, that's a BIG "if" it looks like. According to both weather pages ( Accuweather (http://www.accuweather.com/adcbin2/local_index?zipcode=44857) & Weather.com (http://www.weather.com/weather/local/44857?GO=GO) ) it's gonna be in the 60s, overcast, with a chance for showers. If the weather holds, and Norwalk is half the track I have heard it is, then there should DEFINITELY be some good times laid down! It would be nice to be one of them http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif! Steve, look for the yellow Yenko...

Looks like I'm officially going!!!!!Yahoo!!!!
Besides...I don't think Rob is really ready for the 4:56's , so i better go and drive it for him a few laps, just to make sure it's working properly! Man, would'nt that make Tom happy!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I hope this track is as fast as they say it is.

Well, we are still kind of "iffy" as to whether we will make the trip. The weather has me worried, and we've been busy at work, so I haven't got to give the car the "once over" like I would have liked.

BUT, with that said, I haven't ruled out making the trip either! I have only heard GREAT things about Norwalk, and it sounds like a good chance to put down some decent times...IF I can ever get it sorted out!

Keep your fingers crossed...

Well, quoting the magic 8 ball here..."Outlook Not So Good". I didn't get the brakes on the car finished up, and still have to tackle the trailer brakes, and the rest of the non-car related stuff on the list that I still have to do, on top of working. I know...excuses, excuses, but I just ran out of hours, and I'm REALLY bummed about missing this event for the 2nd year in a row, both times for a wedding. Have I mentioned that I really don't like weddings?

Hope you guys have fun, and I expect to see JJ & Pete at the top when the dust settles! Slam a couple for me, Tim, and tell your dad "Howdy" http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif!

COPO PETE,

Those Buicks donĂt cheat. http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/crazy.gif Actually in 1970, śGM suppressed Buick performance to promote Chevrolet as the performance division”. http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/crazy.gif

Hey, went to NORWALK today brought my '69 Z-28 - made (1) run because of the rain. There was a COPO (original Iron block car) that had a New Crate ZL-1 engine. It ran a ( 12:16 and a 12:40 ). Going back tommorrow the weather is supposed to be better.

Hey Mark,

I notice you didn't post any time for YOUR car. Back in 'the day' I didn't think twice about running my'69 Z down the track. The only thing I ever wore out was the clutch! Now, with so much cash in the car after a ten-year re-do I'm so paranoid about the potential damage of winding it up and dumping the clutch, I drive the thing like the old man I am! How did it do?

Just had my 302 rebuilt and it has a little more power than the old tired engine and I came out at about 1/2 throttle and it spun alittle and ran a 14.9. Last year I spun 5 bearings and ruined everything. I want to go again tommorrow and make more runs and get in some practice, and get a better time. All the cars are stock, no headers factory tires (mine are Firestone E-70-15 Sportscar 200)

Those bogus-ply tires were the reason I went through clutches back in 1971 when the car was only two years old with just 20K miles. But, with an investment at under $2KUS, who cared. For the most part, radial meats did not even exist, so wheelspin was a part of life, and life was fun! Let us know how you do tomorrow!

Hassett's car is a blast to drive. Chambered pipes- very strong the last time I drove the car. Traction limitation is the problem. The car really feels much stronger than a 14.9.

Mark - did you find the ideal launch RPM today? Would have come up to watch if I would have known you were going to run!

Yeah, Mark, Inquiring minds want to know... how did you do today? Launch RPM, reaction time, ET, MPH, fun factor?

Phil and JB,
BAD---both me and My Son kept missing 2nd gear ( I think I damaged the linkage Saturday ) I asked Jim Johnson from Canada (Silver L-89 NOVA) to make a pass with my Z-28 to see how he'd do and he missed 2nd and 4th gear and still ran a 15.30. He adjusted the shifter, set the timing and adjusted the valves. But by now it was warm and the track was slick and we ran a couple of low 15's at 99 MPH. The car pulled good and shifted at 7500 rpm's. The problem with the 302 is you have to rev it hard at the line but then it fries the small tires. They need headers and slicks. As for a Fun Factor my son will try to post a video clip. Jim's Nova ran 12.40 (2nd place) and his friend with the white COPO (Zl-1 Engine) won with a 12.20.

Great week-end guys!!!! Weather was perfect on Sunday. Had a great race. Car worked amazing, ran it's personal best yet. A 12.16, 12.18 and a 12.19. Sunday in the final , ran a 12.28.......there is still more!
Sorry you did not realize who I was Mark when we were chatting, I thought you would know me from two years ago.

Jeez-O-Pete! 12-teens!? WHOA! Sounds like you had the car working! Give us ALL the details! How did JJ do?

Man, as amazing as a 12.16 is, what's even more amazing is that Mark couldn't remember that mug of yours! LOL

Hats off to all who ran this weekend!Pete, your car was sweet!I figured you were going to run "Mr.6 Pak",I watched him run a couple of 12.28's.I left after the first series, prior commitment, did you win the shootout with Glasco(sp?)?

Mark,I can understand your frustration with 2nd. gear.I had a 68 Road Runner with the same problem, would not take a gear at full throttle.Car sounded like it was making lots of power ......

We" TARGET=_blank>www.geocities.com/mhassett2000/easy-launch.mpg
We</A> took off a little easy, and I believe we had a 4th gear issue on this run and ran a 15.28
BTW, anyone know the correct valve lash for the 302 engine? With Jim's help we set it at .026 (intake) and .028 (exhaust).
