View Full Version : Vintage Supercar Photo's

Here's a pic for the "Vintage Supercar Photo's" section. This is another Grossman Chevrolet car owned by Dennis Jorgenson at the time. This photo was taken at Twin City Speedway (a.k.a. North Star Drag Strip) in New Brighton, MN. in the late 1970's. Note the Mopar type hood scoop and Camaro spoiler on the rear. These were just a few of the add-ons Dennis gave the car while he owned it. Luckily, he saved all of the original parts and to the best of my knowledge, these parts were included with the car when it was sold to Otis Chandler. I forget who currently owns this car now, but I know it's someone in the crowd here. I have a few more pics of this car from the early 1980's and I will try and get those posted later this week. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

Enjoy!

When I saw you posted your other Grossman stuff, I was hoping you would post this picture as well! That car, last I knew, belonged to a fellow Show-Me stater named Keith Hutson (http://www.yenko.net/reunion/Hutson_2.JPG). I was thinking you sent me a better picture (from the front corner) that showed the hood better, but I have it at home...could you post that one?

Rob,

I have the other photo's at home and I will try and get those posted within the next day or two. I have to admit that it suprised me a little when I saw this more recent photo of the car with the rear spoiler still mounted on the back. Although it looks very sharp on the car, I hope it won't deceive too many people into thinking it was original.

I somewhere have photos of Dennis's car from the side and front as well as underhood shots. These were taken at the Main Motors car show sometime in the late 70's to early 80's and that spoiler and scoop were mounted on the car at that time. If I can find them, I will post them.

Great photo. Thanks for posting. I had wanted to see that car in person since seeing it in the book Otis did on his collection and was glad to see it at SCR4 last year. It appears to be a low mileage original car but did have a few modifications.

Oh yea... it was a fairly low-mileage car when it left here. I think Dennis spent more time with it at the local dragstrips than anywhere else up until the last dragstrip was closed in '79. After that, Dennis enjoyed showing the Chevelle at local car shows up until he sold it to Otis around 1983 or 84. Just for S&G's... I had heard that the car was sold for somewhere in the neighborhood of $25,000 back then.

Was Dennis the original owner?

hotrodchev
10-23-2002, 05:43 PM
Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty certain he was. As I understand it, Dennis still retained all of the original documentation for the car and this is the reason why Otis had to have it for his collection. Despite some of the strange items Dennis had bolted onto this car, I have to admit that he was a smart man for not throwing anything away. Just my opinion, but I would consider the car to be one of the finer examples out there.

I believe you are correct. Keith did show me a large folder of paperwork he had on the car.

Here's a couple more photo's of the same car taken at a car show in '83. Notice some of the add-ons like the Crager S/S wheels, aftermarket mirror and chrome tubular grille.

Those are great photos. Have you contacted Keith who owns the car now? I don't know if he vists this web site or not but I'm sure he would like copies of the pictures.

I had always hoped to show Keith these photo's, but I never knew how to contact him. Hopefully someone else will do the honors for me and alert him about the photo's I posted here for him. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

This was the car that was part of that 1.75 million package deal from Mecum. Does anybody know if the pics in this thread were reunited with the car?

I finally found my pictures of Keith's car. (Thanks to Bruce for helping me post) These pictures were taken in about 1979 at Art Goebel Ford in Anoka, MN. I believe that is Dennis (the original owner) standing in the T-shirt near the front of the car. Keith, you are welcome to these original photos if you want them.

The owners name escapes me but this is the other '69 Yenko Chevelle from Minneapolis. I believe the original color was also Le Mans Blue but I may be wrong. The current owner is welcome to these original photos. I am guessing these were taken around 1981.

These two were taken at Great Lakes Dragway around 1983. Yet another Black '69 Yenko Chevelle. I have no idea the original color but what a nice way to haul it around. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif The Hugger Orange car was from I believe Wisconsin. The current owners are welcome to the original photos.

I do not recall where these were taken. They could have been SCS 1983 but not positive. I have no owner information then or now on them either.

Lastly, this is a Bonze '69 Chevelle L-89 from what I recall. I don't even remember taking these pictures so I can't tell you anything other then I believe they were also taken at SCS 1983. If anyone knows the current owner, he can have the photos.

Rick,

-------We may not have ever been formally introduced but the day you took this pic of the blue Yenko you were standing right next to me. Look at the goofy guy who appears to be in his skivvies with the camera. Yup!!!! I dont even remember taking the picture, but I believe this was at Super Chevy Indy right about the time you say. I brought a 70 SS454/LS5 Chevelle convertable with 8" knock-offs that was painted 1972 pewter silver/white top+stripes/black gut. Sure wish I had it back. At least we knew what we liked, even then.........Bill S......Oh,,,I got rid of the skivvies!!!

Just kidding Bill, VERY small world as we all know. I was going to pass these photos along to the cars owner and I think I will now sell to the highest bidder or post it on several other site. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I just felt like posting some pics of my old Deuce. I took those photos of my car in front of an apartment building I own in 2005. The scene looked right with no cars on the street and the old buildings in the background. I just thought they looked cool.

It goes to show how decieving b&w photos can be too. If I didn't already know the car's color I don't think I'd have guessed it was red. Almost looks like it could be Citrus Green or silver.
