Congrats on the purchase. That is one sweet car. Have you taken any pictures of the three Stielow cars together yet? I would love to see a "group" photo of them. Thanks for sharing your amazing collection with us.

Your house is photographed so often with your cars,I think I could easily find it if I was in the same state!

All the houses in his tract look just like his!! /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif Some have the garage on the left some on the right, other than that they all are identical. The kicker is when he parks the ford pickup in the driveway... /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

Nothing car? What the heck does your beater look like?
That looks really hot. I like the monochrome look. Also a nice color choice. Is it me or is that a couple shades lighter that Cortez?

Nice tie wraps, Charlie, where are the hood springs? That car is FAR OUT as we used to say in 69!

Very /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif ! It may be a nothing car but I bet it has that special "$$$$$$" code on the trim tag. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/icons/shocked.gif

I had forgotten about "the Mule"! Looks good, but looks can only go so far...so how about some "numbers"! Like cubes, ETs, etc.

Does it have some sort of air box built into the hood or do you run it without air filters?

Charley;
What's the reason for having the rear panhard bar, and a rear sway bar? Doesn't the panhard bar act like a sway bar, or is it to tie the 4link together?

JoeC
11-19-2002, 05:30 PM
Marlin, I would guess, since it has coil overs the panhard bar is needed to locate the rear end side to side. Leaf spring does not need panhard bar because the spring locates the rear.

Charlie, that is one nice car. The are two of that style of Camaro being built here locally. One with a mouse motor and the other with a new 502 Ram Jet. I think only one of the cars is getting the 4-link rear suspension but both will have Currie 9" rears. Have fun with your "mule" /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif ...............RatPack......................

SS427
11-20-2002, 02:43 AM
Charlie,
is this the Car Craft or Hot Rod cover car (with red background) that was featured MANY years ago? They did a write up on the building of the car and if memory serves me correctly, it was a young guy and was one of his first attempts at building a car. Anyway, nice addition to the stable. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Charley Lillard
11-20-2002, 03:00 AM
Different car. This car is just finished. It's buildup has been covered every Month over about the past 18 Months in Popular Hotrodding. Built by Mark Stielow, a GM Engineer. It should be on the cover in Jan or Feb. You might be thinking of the 67 that he built called the Red Witch that was Hot Rod Magazines "Car of the Year" in 1996.

Looks like the mule is out of the bag....very tough car.....Power Tour time ? Try to keep it under 175 !

SS427
11-20-2002, 03:07 AM
Thanks for clarifing Charlie. I know of the '67 and that is not the one I was thinking of. I will have to go through my library to find it. It was a Silver '69 set up similar to yours and had a small block fuel injected motor. Doesn't matter as I am envious in either case. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Charley Lillard
11-20-2002, 03:17 AM
Yes we are gonna try to do Power Tour next year with it. The Tour starts in Nashville and Ends in Dallas. If any of you have the time and a Car, Power Tour is a absolute blast.

djunod
11-20-2002, 12:45 PM
I bet that wakes up the neighborhood when you drive it /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif Of course everything looks awesome, but I love what's been done with the exhaust /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Charley, I will be there this year since it starts out of Nashville. I was going to do it even if it started out of California but hey Nashville is a lot closer! /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif .............RatPack...................

Charley Lillard

It's actually very quiet. There are two sets of Mufflers and the quiet ones are on it.

Chevy454
11-20-2002, 04:02 PM
From past experience...the X-pipe will quiet it down a BUNCH. It's amazing how much difference an X can make on the type and loudness of the exhaust note, totally different from a true dual or even an H design.

11-20-2002, 05:57 PM
Charlie, did you participate in the Power Tour last year? ... If so, what car did you bring? I was only on two legs of the tour this time.... but am definitely looking forward to next year's... provided the military doesn't activate me again.

Rob,
On another note i was wondering the process of getting out of this "junior" member status that iam stuck in. I was thinking more on the lines of "enthusiast" or something really creative being iam the only NUT out here that has a Yenko tattoo and copo tattoo's and dogs named yenko cats named nickey and copo and finally a cell phone # 914-204-COPO. Mr Yenko
12-02-2002, 11:38 PM
Well that is certainly a step, but i need MORE.
I will keep on Rob till he gets me a KOOL name
to be other then junior. I hate that name my dad
calls me junior still to this day and iam 32 yrs.old
go figure. Thanks "SLEEPLESS IN FISHKILL"

I realize that I'm over a year behind on this post, but have to say that this car is simply awesome. I was shocked as hell when I discovered that Stielow sold it, but cars are bought and sold every day, and I'm certain that this one has found a good home. Take care of her, Charley, and please keep it out and about, since this one is too cool to be parked in the shop. Keep us updated of any changes, and enjoy the ride.

I believe the car that SS427 is referring to is the 1969 Z28 that was built many years ago by John Buttera abd his son Chris. It did bear a striking resemblance to the Mule.
