At the way this is going, you will be able to buy a completely restored one from Jerry McNeish for less money! The prices on some of these parts is getting completely out of hand!!

Hi Tom, I checked with Macneish last week when you emailed, and he has none right now. I think bidder Ebay user ID on it right now of "mbpi" is Stefano? Charley, you don't have to bid me up now, Stefano will.

Kevin,
Your not the only one looking for a correct 499, I now need three of them. I think Belair62 took one of mine while I was admiring the underside of his Black Jack Douglass * Yenko Copo Chevelle Tribute car.

All #499's have /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif Sold! Updating website as we speak. Should be done in early March. Thanks

Stefano
02-17-2003, 03:19 AM
Roger,
Thanks but sounds like the price of a restamp which are very prevalent on the market today. I know several members who have spares, but no one is cutting them loose /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

That #499 was not a restamp! It was just a good deal at the time. The website has not been updated in some time and the prices on some parts listed are a bit out dated. Thanks for the slam Maxx!

Stefano
02-18-2003, 03:03 AM
Maxx,
That was not a slam and neither is this. Just Check the Uniform Commercial Code about advertising items which are no longer in stock or prices that can not be honored. If the goods can't be delivered as advertised then its fraud /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

Stefano, My website is not an online store with a shopping cart or any credit card processing. This site is a window to what my company has to offer in restoration services and camaro parts that I may have to offer at a given time. It is posted on the site that prices and stock change and that for anyone to buy an item off this site one must call first to confirm stocking, availibility and pricing. I've attached three of my website headers below to indicate this process.

Maxx! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

This page is updated manually by Coast 2 Coast Camaro when parts become available or after parts get sold!

To purchase parts you will need to call or e-mail for Availability and payment information. Thank you.

Prices are subject to change.

I bought one from McNeish that was restored for 690.00, I was lucky that he had the correct date for my car. I guess if you have to have one with a certain date you do not have much choice.

This 499 Dist that was just sold on E-bay can someone send me a better pic of the 1111499 or similar number placement! Also would they be stamped onto the dist or ona cowler (sp) that goes around the upper part of the shft itself. I will be looking through a bucnk of them in the morning.

Stefano
02-22-2003, 04:41 AM
Jeff,
I don't have a picture but most stamps are in same general vicinity. They are toward the back, facing the fire wall when installed on the engine in the car. They will also have a date code. The number is stamped Horizontal to the flange which holds the circular base of the distributor cap in place.

JChlupsa

the ones that i will be looking at Sat are all out of the blocks. the one on the Auction had some stampings that were fuzzy and i could not read them was that the date code and to the left of the silver appearing tag? Guess I need to get more into older GM parts. I know they used to ahve a alum colar that went around the topd of the shaft and tmy neighbor has about 30 of those in a box.

Stefano

Jeff,
You'll know which way it goes front to back by the position of the vacuum diafram or mounting plate. No tags on these it is stamped into the body and usually very visable , when not messed with.

You need to stay away from those Fords.

The aluminum distributors did not have a tag. The early GM distributors were made out of a iron casting. I think they started making the aluminum about 1965. I know my 1963 had the style with the tag.

After taking another look at this auction and the photos, the numbers appear questionable and possibly a restamp. It is getting so the parts are getting faked as much as the cars. Anybody think it may have been a factory error? Kevin, I checked the one I have and the date is incorrect for your car, last one I have so I think I will hang on to it anyway as hard and expensive as these are to get.

It does have the correct cam. If the vaccum advance is original then it could be a factory mistake. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I am leery of it, the "1's" are not the right type in the part number.
