Ok folks, Here is a Russian Cargo Plane that stopped over here at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. This one has been coming in more lately but I just dont understand why?? The base paper did an article on it saying that WE the USA have contracted it out to transport items. My quiestion is why when the US has its own fleet and other airlines that are just barely keeping their heads above water. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Another pic with the nose open and front end kneeling (down) so vehicles can be loaded. By the way the US's C-5 Galaxy is similar in size (1 foot shorter) but this one cant be re-fueled in the air like ours :P

The one thing that the Russian one can not do. KC 135 with re-fueling boom extending to hook up with the Fill pod on the C5

Sorry just got to thinking AMERICAN made thoughts today when I saw the Russian one on the ramp today.

Nice pics Jeff. I am right below the landing approach at MSP International and from time to time a military C5 Galaxy lands here. Quite a site to see that come overhead.

Sorry to hear that! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
For the most part, all we ever get is C130's.

Neat ones to watch come in are the U-2's/SR71 and some of the ones that only transit at night- one of those cover of darkness things. But since half of my warehouses store Aircraft parts I tend to know what comes through :P

We too have an SR71 but unfortunately, it is only on static display along with several neglegted warbirds. No engines even in the SR71. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Used to go to Scott AFB every year to the open house air show...My brother was in for 30 years. One year we had a special treat...an SR71 did 2 fly-bys....first was low & slow...it looked like a needle in profile...the next time he came past he tipped his wings to the crowd...pointed it verticle and went straight up until it was out of sight...never forget the sound and sight of that...my brother was stationed at Clark AFB during Viet Nam and he said it went out at night and came back at night and that air show was the FIRST time he ever actually saw that plane.

Looks like a AN-225 Mriya, they have a 1,332,750 lbs take off weight and can carry up to 551,150 lbs of payload. Probably being paid to carry the asskick'in equipment to the mideast. The Russians should carry it for free ,out of gratitude for not kick'in their asses. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Jeff, that is pretty neat. Yep Steve, its Kodiak Island, right where I grew up,and still have my other home there. Can you zoom in, maybe some of my boats are in the harbor. Kodiak is in the central Gulf of Alaska region, approximately 250 miles south of the city of Anchorage. Separated from the Mainland of Alaska by about 35 miles at its closest point. I know why Steve would recognize it too, but I better let him tell that.

Zoom in far enough to check the waterline of the boats so we can see what the catch was like.....

Kevin; my 52' Aluminum Catamaran with Hamilton jets and twin 635 HP Cummins would make a nice dinghy/tender for your fleet of 135' off-shore crabbers. Wanna race for pink-slips? Depending on tides and water conditions...we cruise at 37kts @ 2200 RPM /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

very close to it. but not quite. within a hundred miles or so is whats called an area that most resembles the Moon on earth. Matter of fact those that want to say the Moon Missions were faked say they were done there.

Tough to tell from that shot but it's either the science center at the top of Haleakala on Maui or the observatory on Mauna Kea on Hawaii. Probably the latter given how much snow.

Jeff,
Is it Mauna Kea? Gemini Northern 8-meter telescope is the silver one, and the other one looks like Canada-France-Hawaii telescope.

This is one for us. What surprised me is how young they all appear to be--look like they should still be in high school rather than piloting an Air Force plane.
