What is a good size air compressor (HP and tank size) for a home garage? I would like to sandblast, paint and use some air tools.

Mike...find a nice 2stage LOW rpm compressor with at least 40 gal. tank.....5 h.p. minimum but you are more concerned with volume of air for the blasting and painting I think. I have one from Grainger but it is a high RPM compressor which gets kind of annoying to listen to.

If you want it to last stay away from the aluminum compressors.

The reason I asked the question is that I am looking at 7hp, 60 gal tank, compressor at Lowes. The price is $327, not too bad. I just want to make sure it will be able to handle what I want to do.
Bob is yours a single stage?

The $327.00 sounds great untill 2 miniutes after you start blasting.Unless you have a coffee can sandblaster this compressor will never keep up and it will live a short life!
Don't buy a direct drive unit either,Spend a $1000.00 and you might be happy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gifTrust me,i've been there.
