Ummm, first passes on the "freshened" L-72 in our Camaro resulted in a 12.78, 12.63, and a 12.68, all over 110mph. Now the fine tuning starts.

The dark green Motion 'Vette ran some low 13s at around 110, and was absolutely babying it off the line and at the shifts. That car has got the goods.

Hassett's '68 Motion Camaro ran low 13s. They were having carb and distributor problems, and that was their first attempt at playing on the track with that car. Definitely LOTS more in that car, and I'm sure they'll get it squared away promptly.

I think Albert dropped a couple 13s in their in his '69 Yenko Camaro, but he'll be most remembered for the smoke shows he put on! Old bias tires and 4-speed make for scary moments...even in 3rd gear.

Wife says I gotta go...I'll post more later.

Zl-1s:

Larry Christensen's new ZL-1 Phase III in the 11.90s at over 120 mph. Bill Porterfield only managed a 9.64 at 147 mph. Ken Barnhart in the 10s as usual.

1. Good preparation = good results:

I do. It may take me a while to get this one together. I've got a huge number of pictures to go through and edit. Tom, Rob and I agreed this year that I would try to be more methodical and make sure to collect at lease one shot of every car at the show. I also took a bunch of detail and candid shots, yadda yadda yadda. Weather was tough for the drag racing shots as you can see, but with a little work this should be a much better set of pictures than last year....

Looked at the pic a few times and never even notice the cap going its own way. Good eyes.

I was thinking Larry said something about an 11.34 or 11.43 (?aixelsid) but that 120mph sounds right. Either way, that car was HONKIN' and Larry did darn good behind the wheel!

Dru in his HO Y-Camaro ran several high-11 second passes, and most impressed me with his Ronnie Sox impersonation behind the wheel. Each time he shifted, "POW!", like he was mad at it!

I watched the funny car "coast" to a couple of 7 second ETs in the 1/8...would be nice to have it's 1.6 short time! That thing went straight, and will be a beast now that dad is semi-comfortable with it.

Jim and LaDonna's Deuce looked right at home doing it's thing on the track. With the simple addition of more seat time at the track, Jim could put that thing into the 13s in his sleep.

Boje showed no mercy on "Little Hoss" and ran a string of low 13 second passes, but left with a broken tranny and a couple of "minor" rear end issues. Jeff, if you can, try and get a video capture of that car when it launches and brings the REAR tires off the ground!

The 2 Rays (Morrison and Pennington) made some passes in their cars, further adding to the rarity of iron at the track. It's funny, I had to drive 4+ hours to see these 2 guys that live 40 minutes and 90 minutes away from me!

And what can I say about the 2 vintage ZL-1 cars...impressive as always. Ken suffered a broken pushrod early on in his "warm up" pass in the 10s(!), and Porterfield had "numero uno" humping as usual. I'm still bummed they never got to square off. I guess 4 will have to be a charm...

The 2 white Camaros (Biele's COPO and John's Yenko*Douglass) stepped up to the plate and knocked down a few passes. They would have disproved the "white cars don't photograph well" theory if those 2 had squared off in opposing lanes!

I was VERY pleased with the happenings at the track once the rain stopped, and got the impression that their might be an ever so slight growing interest in that part of the Reunion weekend. And as usual, AWESOME PICS, JEFF!!

Hey thats me!.. I'm the dummy standing behind the Budwiser sign in the gray shirt with a camara to my face. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif The drag racing was damn awesome! I felt like a baby in a room full of titties. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And how could I forget Shor's '69 Y-Chevelle. Being an A-body man, it was probably my favorite car at the event. Gotta give MAJOR props to a guy that will side step the clutch at 5 grand! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Robert,

I'm glad that the motor is done with just the some tuning left. I hear a rumor that the Studebaker club wants to do a shootout? Boy, I would say they are in for a surprize! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

It's no rumor...I think we're supposed to hook up some time Friday in Stanton?

As for a "surprise", yeah, I hated to do it, but we've been trying to get it done for a year or so now, and has been our plan since we swapped engines 2 years ago. They know I've gone 12.7s on the other engine, but I should be able to hang with them on the big end now, as they are in the 110-111 mph range on a good run.
