My heartfelt thoughts for Dick's wife Elaine, and his daughter's Valerie and Kim and the extended family of Dick Harrell. Also, to his many friends who remember who he was.

There will never be another "Mr. Chevrolet".

Today marks the 32nd year since his untimely passing on September 12, 1971.

Amen.

What is kind of amazing, even though it has been 32 years, the name "Dick Harrell" is still one of the most recognized names in racing. Where ever I show the '68 funnycar, fan interest is overwhelming.

I think the name "Mr. Chevrolet" says it all.

On that sunny Sunday in September, Dick Harrell had his co-driver Tripp Shumake there with him. I remember thinking how sad it must have been for Tripp; that he had to leave the track for the last time without his friend Dick Harrell. Years later Tripp Shumake would also lose his life in an accident, not at the track but on a Arizona highway. Fate can be very fickle.
