It is in fact a DH Camaro. For obvious reasons I have been trying to obtain info on this car/driver but so far dead ends. JoeC. provided me with a partial lead but nothing so far.

Do you mean Harry Kalwie? He is a known Harrell driver, had a 69 Nova, and 70 Camaro.

Ken,
The magazine article listed his name as Kalmel. Could it be a misprint? Pretty unusual there would be two similar names working for Dick. Anything you can tell us on him and the car?

Rick,

Look up the post "70 Camaro" on the DickHarrell.com website. There is a nice pic of Harry's car there. Looks very similar to Kim's 70ZL1 Gibb/Harrell Racecar. BTW, is your buddy looking for one more KH wheel? Call me if he is.

I can tell you the most important part about this car..

Thanks for the info. I cannot afford to stable another car. If that were the case I would currently own the 70 DH street car but besides the lack of room, it got too expensive, that is why I passed it onto Chad. I was more interested in finding out info on the '70 DH Camaros as a whole to help Chad put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Thanks for that info however.

Harry is a very nice gentleman. I have known about him, his cars and discussed in great length with him. As Dave said, the cars are alive and not for sale. Harry is a pretty private individual. Excellent history though. Harry has told me great sories about Dick, his cars and his racing history.

The name is spelled Harry Kalwei. I presently own this I970 Camaro and yes it is a Dick Harrell car!! I went to school with Harry and have known him for a long time. The picture in Tulsa was this cars last run on the strip. It suffered quite a bit of damage but has been repaired and is in its original configuration at this time. The car has been in storage since that time. This car started out as one of Dick Harrell's AMX class cars and when Harry had an accident and destroyed his nova which was in tow to a race, he installed the nova engine in the 70 camaro and went to Phoenix so he could keep high in his point standings for that year and continued to drive the car in in the Dick Harrell colors until Dick's unfortunate accident in 71. After that he had different sponsors and was painted blue with the Harrell white stripe down the side, the Kelsey Hayes wheels on the front and "Keep on Trackin" on the side with 4 men. It had 1 man with "Missouri Missle" written on the trunk. His main sponsor was Kool Fuel at that time. I think in the very near future you will see this car back in action in full Dick Harrell colors and Harry Kalwei will be back at the wheel!!!

Wasn't the Original slogan,"Keep On Truckin",From the C.W. McCall,10-4 & Convoy Days.
Does anyone remember the weekly TV show that was popular back then about the Truckers???

It was before that I think...it was the artwork with the guy truckin along....just like on the car....may have had something to do with the Grateful Dead....definitely something in that hippie time period..."Truckin', like the doo-dah man"

Welcome aboard Joe! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif Glad to see another DH Camaro surfacing. I had heard it was out there but was unsuccessful locating you or the car after numerous attempts while trying to document Steve Sandlin's DH Camaro. I did finally find you on the DH web site but at that point the car was already home and confirmed. Please enjoy the site and tell us some stories. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Sorry, I dont have many pictures of the car. Maybe someone has pictures they could share of this car. There was a posting of a black and white photo with 4 of Dick Harrell's cars with his semi-trailor in the background and two Camaro's. The picture is at a distance but think the second from the left is the one that Harold drove at the time. It had a dark bronze plexiglas scoup on the hood that faced backward. I think it was on the Dick Harrell drag car thread and about the 19 or 20th page.

I think that you are right. Since Kool Fuel was his sponsor and produced traction bars he changed the slogan to "Keep on Trackin".

I will post a couple more pics. This is one that I scanned of a Kool-Fuel handout. It didn't come out very good. This is the way that Harry left the line, about 2' of air under the front tires!!

This is a picture with the blue and white paint stripped and in primer. This is the way it is today. (I am downsizing these pictures so they will upload.)

Joe,

Welcome aboard this site. I had always hoped that some of the fellows that were there with Dick would join Val's son's site, and this site. Harry's car was first a GT2 class car. It was sponsored by Fred Gibb, and was in similar paint as Kim Howies car will be (the '70 Gibb/Harrell 427 CanAm motored SS car). I have a couple of shots and an article about it and I will try and post in the next couple of days. Here is a shot when it was first a GT2 car.

are these the same wheels that are on the car in your post? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

John,
They are the same wheels. Do you have any of these wheels? I am looking for one or a pair of 15" x 4" that will fit the front of a 70 1/2 Camaro.
Thanks
Joe

Nice going Rick, now you spoiled it!

I couldn't see any jack in the picture but the fact that the garage door was about 20' in front of the car was my first clue. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
