(4)Callaway Corvettes, '70 HEMI Cuda Coupe. Oh yea "The King of POP" Michael Jackson's 2001 Bentley. I got a question about auctions regarding "Reggie Jackson" cars up for sale. I have never been to an aution that had cars owned by famous personalites. I was just wondering if the prices on Reggies cars climbed to a higher auction price because they were owned by him. OR, did his cars up for auction end at a reasonable market value?

JChlupsa
12-15-2003, 01:38 AM
Never been to one either but it seems that his cars do command higher prices or at least he seems to think so

jfkheat

Very few cars at Barrett-Jackson sell at "reasonable market value."

Was that the B/J auction that had that "Great" Live cable hook up last year?..Don't forget that knowledgeable commentary too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I remember hearing the crowd actually Booed Reggie J. last January, because he wanted more then market value of his car.Possibly because of his name?

I was next to Mr. Jackson on the ZL-1 No sale. This was the original engine documented car. (Reggie's term is "all the toilet paper") The original block was not in the car at the time of sale, however he told bidders that he had located it and had it. Mark Hassett and I spoke to him about the car at the Gala and he had asked me where I estimated the bidding would go on the car? I replied about 300. As I recall the bidding ended up around 290?? Anyway, He was looking for a little over 300. Not really bad if you figure that you are getting a documented "Reggie car" with a spare ZL-1 block.

He will thin the collection from year year but it is clear he does not need the money.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Me either. From what I understand, his cars are often rough around the edges.

Celebrity ownership of cars shouldn't logically help the value too much if it's a top end car. Do Jay Leno, Tim Allen, Charlie Sheen and Nicolas Cage get premiums for their cars? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

He plays golf at our course periodically. Now that I have met him and talked to him, I personally value his cars LESS.

Did Reggie really say "all the toilet paper"? or did he say "Tissue" paper? The old school guys call original docs tissue paper because some of it is that funny looking paper that you get from carbon paper copies.

Reggie uses the term "Toilet paper". As for the overall value of the celeb cars- people do generally pay more. The final price of the Don Johnson Hemi Cuda clone (318) is an example, However the car has got to be good. Don had a truck that came across the block soon after that did not bring much at all. It had Alain Ducadnet wheezing! Real Smoker...... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Ok Guys step up... Who is going to be there? It Is a hell of a trip and lots of fun, Perhaps you can ask Reggie yourself.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I don't necessarily disagree, but wasn't what drove the price of the Cuda clone the fact that it had been used in the Nash Bridges TV show? Same thing with the fake GT500 Eleanor from the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds?

70 copo
01-09-2004, 04:45 PM
Perhaps.... That car was one of several of the cars used in the TV show.

On the bidding -Pure Cleb power on that car. The bidding slowed considerably until Don started talking about all of the fun he had had in the car- something about "if those seats could talk", and then later "My A** has been on those seats!" the crowd went wild - and so did the bidding-up by another 50K at the end. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Actually, in a word, yes. A '69 Chevelle SS 396 sold at auction locally, formerly owned by Nicolas Cage, with the paperwork to back it up. It was an original Fathom Green car painted black, with black limo tint windows...seems to be a Nick Cage signature as I've seen his '65 Corvette Coupe with the same treatment. The car did close to 30 grand and wasn't at all anything particularly exciting to look it. Chromed out underhood, aftermarket wheels, radials, trim shop guts, your typical "street machine" Chevelle with NOM. I'd say $10,000 or more was spent on Nick Cage's name. Doesn't make particular sense to me either, but then again there's people who look at screen actors like we look at Don Yenko. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Just think Belair, if you ever sell your '62 at auction you can boast that "Charley's as$ was on those seats" I Don't know if it will cause quite the same bidding frenzy though.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

First let me say Hello. I am new here so I will try not to step on any toes. Not everyone who buys a car from the group you named pays a premium. I purchased a Z28 from Charlie Sheen and got a great deal. What made the deal for me is that Charlie L. had bid on the car. That held more weight than Charlie Sheen. I kept that paperwork for proof. Maybe if I sell the car it will be sold at a premium because of both Charlies? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Thats pretty funny. Wasn't that a very orig car that was used on some Chevy Brochures or something ? Still have it ? Got any pics ? I remember dealing with the Guy selling them for Charlie was kind of a pain.

Good memory. Yes, they were a pain to deal with. After the auction (you were the high bidder did not hit the reserve) I went to the Airport Hanger where the car was stored. The clutch and the linkage were so bad the car did not make it out of the Airport. They ended up discounting the price. Charlie thought they ended up selling to cheep. I have done a lot of cleaning and detail work on the car. It has some rare items (speed minder & fiber optics U46). I am not convinced it is a brochure car. Maybe I need a detective? I will post pictures later.

They had the photo radar here in Hawaii for a few months until it was found that the tickets were being issued by non-law enforcement personnel (Contracted)and that they also were being processed somewhere on the east coast and then sent in the mail. This practice was found to be illegal since the contractor running process had no legal authroization to access privacy act info such as SSAN's and home addresses and phone numbers. it was also found that the time it took to get the tickets were to far apart from the time it was issued. This being said the City and County of Honolulu still had to pay the company a little over $2 Mil to take the cameras and go home, just to get rid of them!!!

Denis
01-21-2004, 07:06 PM
They may have a photo of the car speeding but there's no proof the registered owner was the person driving.

JChlupsa
01-21-2004, 09:10 PM
Camera will snap both the plate and the drivers pics. Ticket is sent to Registered owner and its was up to them to prove they were not driving the car. OH well the CamVans here n Hawaii are history at least for now.

They do make a clear cover that distorts the cameras ability to focus n the plate and you can get the same effect by bending the plate down a bit.
