I have the article too. Test by Oldham. Speed and Supercar. Boy, I miss those magazines. The picture of the post car is probably the "ET" which was started as a tempest but buy the time it was done the "Judge" name was what it was and not a stripper with a big engine. The stripe on the pictures you have either must be an early stripe or a prototype stripe as the stripe on the judge came back to the sail panel. The car did not have a black interior. It looks either white or tan. Could be white as pages have yellowed over the years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Cool pics, that proto type Judge was supposed to have been destroyed after it's test duties were completed. Ertl or Performance Years Enterprises made a commemorative version of the 1/18 Judge with these stripes. Those stripes look great makes you wish they reproduced them for a full sized car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Looks like you've got pics of at least 5 different cars here, very cool.

Yea after looking at the pics again there must have been at least two Judges used for testing with these stripes, pretty obvious one too. One has exposed headlights and the other has hideaways. Pretty cool.

Notice the turn lamps, rear side marker, and posts. Several cars here, not sure how many..... but several

DaJudge

Yea the one pic clearly shows a 68 GTO post car as the HOT ROD test car with a 69 rear bumper and 68 quarters. Those rear markers were definetely 68's. I guess Pontiac was going to carry over the 68 rear markers for 69 and changed it up right before production. Very interesting indeed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Yea cool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
and many change on the side marker on these Judge
Hideaways and exposed headlight
Post and Hardtop
Judge Sticker and no Sticker. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Note in the ads posted today that the words "The Judge" do not appear on the car. When the pictures were taken the name must have not been decided on. The ad pictures were probably taken about 2-3 months before publication. Must have still been debate between "ET", "The Judge" and others at picture taking time. Noticed the other things mentioned.

Actually, this is incorrect. There may be a running change, but there will never be an identity problem like that before an ad shoot.

Also, there ARE Judge decals. They are at the base of the stripe.

And that sure looks like a TA spoiler, instead of the normal Judge spoiler.

More info and pics about the post Judge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

We first met the Judge at Ubly Dragway,
a pleasant Spot about 100 miles
north of Detroit in the Saginaw Bay
area. Besides its charm, Ubly is remote
from inquisitive eyes, and since we
tested the Judge prior to introduction,
this helped. As were the first few thousand
off the line, this one was finished
in an eye-catching Dayglo red. From
the front, we could tell very little
difference between the Judge and a standard
GTO except for the fact that the headlights
were exposed, and as this is
often a part of a GTO, the difference
was scant. But from the backside, there's
no mistaking it. A full-width rear deck
spoiler' is a standard item, and it's "as
different from current air-spoiler designs
as this car- or the regular GTO
-is from its marketplace rivaIs. The
60-inch-wide panel is horizontally
placed and is supported by a pair of
stands on the deck lid. The spoiler's
leading edge is a distance of three-and-
a-half inches off the trunk surface. Its
full-width design had better be noticed
by anyone resting his hand on the fen-
der edge while the deck is lowered, or
a lesson in how compressible human skin
is might quickly be learned.

It's a Ram-Air III 4-Speed CR and 3.90

Just hate it when I can't see. LOL. Had to save then enlarge to be able to see it. It looks like the Royal stripe that they put on the GTO's and at the end of it was the "Bobcat" emblem.

BTW I like the attachment test car the best. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

The Hot Rod test car is a 69 Tempest body (2dr sedan) E.T. prototype. 68 GTO, Lemans, Tempest and 69 Lemans, Tempest all shared the same rear quarter panel side marker light. 69 GTO had its own design. I would guess the one without the Judge sticker on the fender would be the second Judge prototype based on the GTO body. Third is the actual production car.

This is possibly the GTO "The Judge" tested by Car Craft.
This is not the original magazine
it's a remake from Car Craft Perf Serie V2 N3 Musclecar Classics 1984
and with only one photo of this Judge.
I don't have the original Magazine.

I have another photo of a test Judge from an article about Herb Adams
in Musclecars Classics Feb 1989. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Possibly the same Car Craft test Judge.??

I just passed a Red GT-37 after lunch near 71st and Lewis. It was going north on Lewis. Woman driving it. I thought it was a GTO at first till it went by me. Nice hood on those cars.

Another secret car found in the woods, it looks like a 64 Lemans. Notice the Chevelle right next to it, there are probably 30 Chevelles just like this in this feild. And the guy will sell parts from them if your conected. Whole cars also, in some cases. Most of the cars have been in the feild since before 1980.

I found this photo of the 1969 test cars. These were in Florida. I can get more info about the testing, but it looks like it says "CARS" on one door so maybe it was CARS magazine's test?
