From "back in the day." Love the skinny slicks.

Awesome pic!!! Is that you? And what's the E/T?

427TJ

I wish that was me! No, I was just six years old when this photo was taken. No mention of the car's ET. I love that narrow-slicks look of the late '60s.

Stock classes were limited to a 7" slick. There is still a limit today on the width of slicks in the "stock" class. I have some others and will try to find and post as time permits.

My favorite car and a launch too, must have made a lasting impression.

427TJ
01-14-2004, 06:28 PM
Yeah, I bought two new 15x6 Cragar S/S's in December and I've been going back and forth as to whether to run 6's in back or 7's. I'll probably go with 6's and run smaller 70-series redline radials in front and larger 70's in back.

Hey, if the '50s guys can bring back the nostalgia hot rod look with big-n-little whitewalls/steelies then I think we musclecar guys could bring back a "nostalgia street machine" look. Besides, think of how fun it would be to have a street car with a healthy BB and 70-series tires out back?

No idea what the story is behind "Rocky's Goat." I just scanned the image out of an old magazine because it is a COOL pic. No doubt there were THOUSANDS of guys (and gals?) who ran such cars competitively back in those days.

Last cool pic for now!

I can almost see Warren Oates walking up and getting in. (See movie: "Two-Lane Blacktop.")

I've seen that one before. It looks vintage. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif I assume someone painted the front spoiler orbitorange. It's a non Judge, maybe it's one of "Two Lane blacktop" cars? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

HI, I did go through my mag. collection, saw the same. I assume, they painted the lower spoiler to match car. Pretty rare to see non judge GTO. I do know of a raiv GTO. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Both the "Jolly Olly Orange" '69 Judge photo and the '70 RA-IV color photo came from the July 1970 Cars Magazine. By the way, the '70 GTO was called "a 400 Ram Air GTO in Judge trim" in the article.

Here's a photo I found of Warren Oates sitting on top of the Orbit Orange GTO in "Two Lane Blacktop".

As many of you know, Oates played "Sgt. Hulka" in Bill Murray's movie, "Stripes".

The raiv GTO was sold early? It was ended. Car was for sale in another publication, it was rougher car w/o any orig. mtr parts. It looks like it got painted fast, as it was painted green before. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

It was a real raiv gto, but all ra parts gone including complete drivline.Body was in need of alot. I believe, given it being a raiv, it was worth 15k. It seems like the Judges are hot, the gtos, even raiv have not caught on. I think the flash of the Judge is what catches the eye. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Must be a BB Chevy in that one !!! (JK)..now I have a question for you Judge fellows....in the 1970 GTO Assembly Manual they show a "Judge" sticker with a placement on TOP of the rear airfoil...next page showthe traditional lower decklid placement....what's up with that ?

musclecarz
02-01-2004, 11:58 AM
In 1969 the decal was on the decklid and 70 and 71 it was on the top of the wing, The Bermuda blue car was sold early for 21,000 Too much for a car that was on e-bay 6 months ago (green) and sold for 9.500 . It was a real RAIV car and did come with stripes. Only thing is if you ordered the side stripes on a 70 (NON JUDGE) you got the 1969 stripe package, So the eyebrow stripes pictured were most likely not correct, The blue car definitly got a whiz bang trunk floor, Floor pan and Quarter surgery, But. It is one of the nicest optioned standard GTO's Ive seen in a long time, I think GTO Judges are one of the coolest cars ever built, Remember I said "one of". I don't mean "THE" nicest, I've had several of each year and gotta tell you that 69's are my favorite but for driving the 455 HO of the 71 was great!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I was going to check my GTO Resto book when steved posted this. I recalled the same thing: in '69 they put the decal on the airfoil, then in 70 & 71 it went on the deck lid right lower corner.

Back in the early 80's in Muskogee, we raced at this dead end road every Sunday evening during the summer. This is what we lived for. The town officals grew tired of it after a few years and covered the road with a hill of dirt to stop it.

Steve_Hoog

70 GTO finds it's demise in a yard in Muskogee, probably 83. This yard closed shortly after and most of the cars are still there untouched. I posted another pic from there a while back.

Here's a really nice Judge that sold on Ebay just a couple of weeks ago, by looks of the PHS included in the auction it must be a very loaded car.

That Ebay Judge looks like a deal but I get the feeling that the RA4 engine is not there. He just says it has a 400" Pontiac engine.

Steve_Hoog
07-17-2004, 06:39 PM
The shot of the engine is not conclusive, but suspect for sure. Notice also the power brake booster and power steering not listed on the PHS, which would have to be if correct. The white console is a little silly too, but still a nice car.

I haven't developed my pics yet, I got this from some one else. I have two links to POCI pics if that's what your after.

1. Heartland TA Club (http://www.heartlandtransamclub.com/)

2. Joe's pics (http://www.gtopower.com/cgi-bin/photo/index.cgi?mode=view&album=/GTO_Power/POCI_2004)

My favorite was a unrestored black 57 fuelie that pulled in late Saturday, had a mean sounding hole in one of the rusted tailpipes and a couple of pieces falling off. Bad to the bone, you will probably have to wait until I get mine developed on that one.
