Original 12 bolt rear? You could only get 10 bolt rears in Pontiacs 69 and 70, they started putting 12 bolts in GTO's in 71. Hopefully the real body goes along with the tags. The good thing from auctions like this is that you now have the VIN.

Beginning in 1970 any "A" body with a 455 got a 12 bolt. This included the Grand Prix. This existed through at least 1972. I had a Grand Prix (1970) w/455 and it had a factory 12 bolt. I bought the car in 1972/1973(?). GP was a stretch version of "A" body.

For "F" body cars beginning in 1970 some 400's came with 12 bolt and in 1971-1972, some had 12 bolt and some didn't, even with 455HO. Friend had '72 T/A and it did not have a 12 bolt. Have an article with '70 Formula 400 w/12 bolt.
Who knows why they did what they did with "F" bodies. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Yep, I meant GTO's and I did forget about the late year intro of the 455 and the 12 bolt rear in 70 for the GTO when the 455 was ordered. The car advertised on e-bay the guy states " no motor but original trans and 12 bolt rear" a 12 bolt could not be had in a 69 GTO. Keepin me on my toes. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Hi, the 70 TAs had the 12 bolts. The firebirds 71 & on used a 10 bolt. I did have a real eraly 71 TA, that had a 12 bolt, maybe factory dumped some into the early cars? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif
