Hey guys,

I just got an am/fm, no its onto the tach project. I would like a Day-2 tach for the Camaro. I know e-bay is a good place to find Sun Tachs but I do not know too much about them. Are there different models? I would like something in mint condition. What are other period correct brands? M/T? Hooker? Thanks.

The "Big Daddy" Don Garlits Dixco Tachs are real nice also! Lakewood traction action bars, and a green, orange, or white flex-a-lite fan works good too. How about a set of Cragars, and a pair of Goodyear blue streak 7" slicks!!!!! I LOVE my Hooker Headers!http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Any idea of a brand name on this vintage tach? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Kid,
"pretty sure" it's S/W. Green and white stripe is indicative of early S/W, as well as the narrow rpm needle and red line pointer and adjustment knob, as well as the pedestal mount I guess you don't have it in your possession, or you'd have taken the back off to look for a name.

Verne.

I don't know what it is, but i can guarantee you its not a Stewart Warner.

Can you tell us why you say that?I am curious to learn!
Would removing the back & inspecting the guts reveal anything?

I'll guarentee it's not SW also, it's entirely plastic bodied, and not at all like anything SW ever made. SW was never shy about putting their name all over the stuff they produced either. This isn't in any vintage SW catalogs either, because it's for sure not an SW piece. I was thinking it could be a RAC Tach, as I've seen similar plastic bodied tachs made by RAC, but they usually carry a logo or some identifying marks as well. This one right now is anyone's guess. I'll let you know if I decide to crack it open to get a look at the guts, just thought someone here may have seen another at one point...guess not. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Charley.gif

...what he said. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif My bet is that its a tach made by RAC or some other "second rate" company, and sold through a JC Whitney type catalog, hence the lack of logos or names on the tach itself. Dixco used to to this as well, and sold hood tachs, gauges, etc. through JC Whitney, with no logos or brand name present. I don't think this is a Dixco tach though, as it doesn't look like any I've seen with the Dixco logo on them.

IM BETTING ON RAC TOO!!

Well then, it's a good copy of a lot of typical S/W features.

Also, some 1st rate companies supply their products without their logo to second rate companies to satisfy the discount market.

It looks a lot like this known RAC unit. Same grained plastic, single screw cup design, but mine has "Made in Japan" molded in the back when any RAC tachs I've seen have been American made. Perhaps this is a later unit that was manufactured overseas by a subsidary of RAC, or simply a copied design made for less in Japan. I opened it up too...no clues as to the manufacturer were found.
