We have attended the Super Chevy Show in Joliet for the past 3 years. After hearing about the changes that have been made by them, we don't have a real desire to go this year. What should we expect in coming to Monmouth on Friday night, Aug. 6th, and then on to LaHarpe for the Saturday show. The website makes it look enticing. Anything else to look forward to? It appears that if we do this, we had better be getting some rooms reserved.

Helen, Nancy, and Connie Gibb will be in LaHarpe this year, not Joliet! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

There are always a few cars that just don't show up very often together at your everyday show. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There should be at least 3 Yenko deuces at Monmouth, and Laharpe. Monmouth is Very cool, and Laharpe is Gibb sacred ground. And the Mayor is cool. Schonye http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Mayor is MORE than cool and he does one hell of a job bringing some of the most primo cars in the country together. Friday's cruise in Manmouth is also a more than well done event! Anyone truly interested in the original SuperCars would be missing out if they neglected to participate in the Fred Gibb Memorial show!

So does anyone know the lodging status in or around Monmouth? Is that where most people stay on Fri. night?

AnnieHartweg

Most stay at the Hawthorne Inn 309.734.0909 be sure to tell them you are there for the cruise.

Nice try Babe and I love ya like a brother but those keys are staying right here. Now if you care to make the trip....I am sure we could work something out. Especially since the closest(to the house) state road is currently undergoing a makeover...should be similar to a drag strip when completed. One good thing about IL...the roads are long and flat......sure beats the 2 miles of gravel I have to navigate now!

Here's a post detailing a few of the changes to the SuperChevy Show.

http://216.182.2.172/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=000642

I also read elsewhere that you will no longer be able to confer with the judges after the show to find out how your particular vehicle was rated. According to this post, it appears that the changes may be a good thing for the attendance to the Monmouth/LaHarpe events.

I have never been to Laharpe but have heard a lot of good about it. I have been to Super Chevy in Joliet for the past 2 years and it has been just ok at best. That is why it is good to have a show like the Super Car Reunion where there is no judgeing at all. I mean who cares anyway? You are competing for a $10.00 POS plaque! There was a guy bitching in that linked thread above about Super Chevy not giving away jackets as prizes any more.....who gives a rats ass....who actually wares those jackets anyway?!?! Mine are still in the plastic bags that they came in from 2 years ago!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I have been 3-4 times, and have always had a great time. Lots of neat cars, including several COPOs and dealer built cars plus usually a well known race car or two. Oh, and lots of friendly folks, including he Gibb family and friends. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Nice try Rick.........she already promised me the keys. I was fortunate enough to drive it last year before she did after the Gibb show.

Besides, Muffin hasn't played in the median yet........right Annie http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif and local law enforcement isn't watching the state roads for me (yet).........but hey, I got a get out-of-jail free card. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Gary, where can you go,in of the middle of a town. The Hyway is watered down and you make a burnout. The great thing is the police are running the water hose!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Funny you mention that. A couple of years ago, the Kendall Co. Sheriff's Dept. hosted a show at their very impressive new facility. Near the end, they had a parade of police & rescue vehicles which happened to include one officers own 9 sec. Impala. He did 2 burnouts at the front door. Exiting the show, there were several officers standing along the street where there was a stream of water flowing across the pavement. I jokingly asked if "this was the waterbox," and to my surprise, they said "yes, light 'em up!" Who am I to disobey a police officer?

Almost a year later,I am still ticked about my not so nice conversation with a State Officer on my way home from the LaHarpe show.....all that aside, it is a great show.

If you love old muscle and want to meet more than a few orig owners and see their cars, this and the sYc reunion are the places to be!

Truly guys, these are the two places where THE cars show up!
