Found this article in the July 1967 Car Life. Alan Gwynn Chevrolet modified a RS/SS 350 into a slalom racer and the article is titled "Camaro for the Curves." Basic modifications to the car included 2 additional leafs in the rear springs, traction bars, lowering 2.5 inches, Koni shocks, 15x7 Americans with 9.95-15 Blue Streaks, "Corvette" cam, 4:10 Posi, M-21, plus a few other items. Looks like a fun car to have even today. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Closeup of the cover shot. Note dealer plates and Alan Gwynn plate frames. Look closely to see the woodgrain wheel.

Side view showing lowness of the car. American Racing five-spokes will never go out of style. They call the car "purple" so that must mean that it was a Royal Plum car. The Bumblebee was redone in gold with white pinstripes. Note that the bodyside pinstripes end farther back on the front fenders. They probably did that when they repainted the Bumblebee stripe.

Last photo. I just noticed that the pinstripe on this side goes all the way up to the Bumblemee. Hmmm.

Here's my stock Alan Gwynn '67 L35/auto. Note Alan Gwynn frames. The dealer is still in business in the same location on South Brand in Glendale, California. I went there a couple of years ago to see if they still used the cool metal license plate frames but they went to the crappy plastic ones long ago. Out front, no kidding, was a '67 327/PG Camaro coupe, Madeira Maroon, black standard interior, dead stock and unrestored, full wheelcovers with whitewalls, black plates with original dealer frames from Redding, CA. It was just a coincidence that it was parked in front of the dealer.

I have a set of Diecast License plate frames from there.
They show,ALLEN GWYNN on top with chevy bowties on both sides,on bottom says,GLENDALE,all on a purple background.
Just the opposite of what is shown in your picture.
Email me if interested.

The only color photo is the magazine cover. My best guess is that it was a Royal Plum car with gold (custom painted) Bumblebee stripe with white pinstripes on the 'bee and white factory bodyside pinstripes. No, no closeups of the wheel/tire combo. Article is on the way via e-mail. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
