The known history of the car begins in 1982 when Ray Dupont acquired the car. Ray had been lucky enough to find a very low mileage, original paint, Copo Camaro that had been sold new at Scuncio. Ray wanted to go racing, so, he proceeded to “improve” upon the already awesome car. A pretty radical big block with, at times, a dual quad tunnel ram was installed. The original block was put in the corner. He added a Jericho trans, some Summers Bros. axles, a little suspension work, and it was off to the races. On 10” slicks the car ran consistent 10:50 times. After twenty years of fun, but, very few miles, Ray had had the car repainted, and, the motor rebuilt, and, it was time to go to the next owner. Kevin Hand bought the car, and, sold it to Mike Guarise. Over the next year Mike put the car back to a more stock appearance, and, as luck would have it, had no room for the car. Having looked patiently for a supercar, Mike’s friend Dave Steinberg had followed the progress on the car, and, “just had to have it” when it was ready. Dave’s car still retains all of its original body panels and interior, and, now has a total of 10,400 miles. Dave has now had the original engine rebuilt, and, plans to install that, along with a correct M21, in the near future. On the other hand, maybe Dave can be convinced to leave it the way it is for SCR 8, and, blast a few 11.0 runs! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Is the Scuncio dealer name special? I've heard the name mentioned a few times and I'm wondering what the significance is. Did they sell more/less COPOs than other dealers or what? Just curious.

Scuncio sold 25 COPO Camaros according to Ed C.
For a long time I thought that my car was from there because it came out of New England. I like the black paint on mine so much that I won't repaint it unless I have to.
Very awesome looking ride.
Why CA plates on a RI car?

That dealer sold alot of Hi-Perf. Chevrolet's for there time. My brother's Double Blk. 4-spd. LS-6 chevelle came from Scuncio. We still talk to the orig. owner and he recalls a line of LS-6 Chevelle's and a Fathom Green ZL-1 that sat there for over a year before they took the motor out and sold it to a local racer. That car is now in Cliff Ernst collection in Nashville,Tenn.(Host of SCR 1)

i owned the car about 2 month's and it was scary. It was 45 minute's from my house. After the 1st drive with Ray Dupont, i was scared to death. Racing form with 456 gear's and would raise the front end off the road and still streetable.I drove the car 5 times and couldn't decide to put it back to original or keep it like it was. What helped me make my decision is when i took my 4 yr. old for a ride on a back street and we hit 2nd gear and crossed up in the road and headed for the trees i shoved it in neutral and went back to the house shaking like a leaf. I had to make a decision quick. It was easy, the car was way over my head.It was without a doubt the fastest car i have ever been behind the wheel of. Ray Dupont could drive it like a street car, he definitely knew what he was doing. A Pro!One Double Bad _ss _other! When i got out of the car i was trembling scared! My son said Daddy that hurt my head when i hit the roll cage!

I believe we may own a sister car to the black Scuncio COPO, featured in January 05

Our car is factory tuxedo black with black standard interior, COPO 9561 - L72 427 4spd M21, and BE code 4.10 rear axle, sold new from Scuncio Chevrolet.
Only One titled but two American owners, the car has 10,600 original miles, numbers matching with documentation and verification from Ed Cunneen COPO Connection.
The Build sheet to our car is featured on page 229 in “The definitive 1969 Z28–SS396 fact book” by Jerry MacNeish.
We are the 3rd owners and purchased the car in ’96, and continue to enjoy just looking at it, and occasionally taking it out for a spin.
