I'm familiar with and have looked at the Automania Z28, anyone interested can P.M. me for details. It appears to be a real, original engine Z28. It is an LA car.

In the interest of advising a prospective buyer, I'll suggest a few things I noticed in pictures of BLUE Automania Z-28.
1) 70 Z-28's had Rear Bumper Guards and mounting holes in lower valance ....This car has none
2) This car has WoodGrain dash bezel and std Black Stering wheel Shroud.....One or the other is WRONG, and I'm betting Dash Bezel was added
3)Wrong shifter Ball....should be chrome
4)Wrong Tailpipes......Dont ya think a $35,000 70Z-28 should have a GARDNER system (finding ORIGINAL tailpipes is virtually impossible...Ive been looking for YEARS)
5) Non Original Right front fender....This car has 74 style replacement fender
6)Air Cleaner Wrong and I believe base is repop
7)Wrong VAlve Covers
8)Headers
9)No SMOG

I can only imagine misc other things I cant see...AND this is on a 70 Z-28 that is being offered for THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND $$$$$....I have NO idea how much Bob G paid for his, but suspect he's VERY happy.....

Hope everyone comes to "Camaros at Carlisle" to SEE Quality 70+ Z-28's and MORE!!!!!

About all I saw it had going for it was what appeared to be an original engine with a correct stamp, casting date and casting number. No paperwork and marginal interior, of course, being an LA car, nothing on the trim tag.
I'm looking for an automatic version of a 2nd generation Z.

I'm somewhat pleased Chuck http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif...there are some incorrect items on mine but nothing I can't live with...for now ! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif The white Z automatic looks pretty nice.

If the Automania 70 "Z-28" is an LA car W/O Build-Sheet somebody better really do there homework.....before buying.
I'm NOT accusing anybody......but for $35,000 I could clone a LA 70 Z-28 too fool(almost)anybody.....and make a tidy profit doing so.....

The blue car has a stick on wood grain paper. It's junk for that price.

CamarosRus
03-26-2005, 04:01 AM
All these escalating prices are good for current owners, but bad news for aspiring owners. Even though I own tree escalating 1970 Camaros, I'm not pleased with what stupid buyers and greedy sellers (too many of them "DEALERS") have done to the hobby of musclecar restoration, collecting, whatever.....Somebody's going to come along and buy this Automania "Z" (??) for say $30K and think he got a deal???
When if ever will this bubble burst ??????

Chuck...there will always be crappy vs. good cars out there for sale. You just have to know who you are buying from and the knowledge to know what you are buying. Thats why this site and sites like NastyZ28 are so important....there are guys on these sites that know an awful lot. They are here to help and hopefully learn before they jump in. All in all good people...unlike other places that just like to hear themselves talk and try and get their hands in each others pants. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Bud, Before the stock market BLEW UP I had accrued more money than I'll ever earn otherwise. I didnt take a dime out(in time), didnt buy what I should of (cars, houses, whores, whatever) and subsequently lost almost everything.

Chuck,

The market is going to run its cycle and that will last as long as it takes. As we all know prices went up in the late 80's and then dropped off in the 90's with the stock market/tech boom. Over the last 5 years the Baby Boomers are running the current market up. I am glad I am in the hobby for the love of it and not for the money-and because of that I keep the cars that I have despite the current market for flipping cars and the repeated attempts to buy a couple of mine.

For the 70 cars specifically this market is still emerging and is doing very well. Most people who are forced to sell a 70 would be a crazy not to sell the car for the best money they could, and good for them. If I was in that situation, who the buyer was would take priority in the sale not the money.

Over the years people have tried to buy my 70 car since 1988. Most recently I turned down 6 figure money for the car, and did not blink - so there you go, I think $35K, for an original drivetrain car that needs some fluffing up may be good market value today. These cars are jumping in value by the month (or week) at this time.

Phil http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Belair - You really have a nice car. At least you can take it out and drive it right?? Very cool I really like Hugger Orange. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I think 70 copo has a point 35k is not way off for a (real deal)# s matching 70z.I mean there is probably room for neg but if its rust free and #s matching car with good colors etc iam not surprised of the asking $$, especially with the prices of 69 z cars.I have a 70 Z LA build 4spd all #s car with build sheet rust free and fact stripe delete, and if i sold the car i would ask 35k..just my 2 cents thanks http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Phil...I intend to have fun in the 70 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif People keep telling me how much better a 70 will ride and handle compared to 1st Gen. I will miss the cubic inches but if I need a fix it's only as far as the garage ! I hope this little LT 1 surprises me ...I am told it will.

I'm going to be in the KC area this coming week and might drive over and check out the white Z at Happy Days. They've had this car for awhile now which surprises me a bit. Anyone on this site actually seen this car in person? I think the 70 Z's will be a good investment but the few I've seen listed out there as originals are still sitting for sale in the mid 30's range.

You might also check out Randy Blythe classic cars in Arkansas as I think they have a Forest Green one that looks pretty nice....has green interior though.

Belair,

When I drove mine on the street in the 80's - (with the factory tach) mine pulled hard to 7200-would continue to rev to 7800, but the usable power really dropped off at about 7200. The best part about the LT-1 is the consistant power band. Take it out and rev it up. If it has a "sweet spot" I would say it is about 6000 RPM because of the sound the engine makes. You will Like it.

If you have lots of rear ratio you will like it more!

Phil, As you might know....I'm involved with others as one of the Camaros at Carlilse 2nd Gen Judges. There is SO much I do not know about the many options on these Z-28's, SS, R/S with all the different RPO's and COPO's like yours.
I continue to learn, but these web site bulletin boards are a constant source of education, contradictions and controversy....

Silver Z guy wouldn't send me any pictures of the pad, swore it was the original engine.
Heard of a one owner '70 Z in Texas and I got the number and called the owner Friday. It was true, he bought it new and it had 48,000 miles. Ran 13.5 @ 105 in '71 with traction bars and headers. Has all the original stuff back on now, this is an automatic and sounds like a very nice car. He is not really ready to sell, but thinking about it.

That Carb. heat shield was included in RPO NA9.This is known as the California Emission Charcoal Cannister,or EEC.
Solid lifter Cars sold New in the State of Calif. or Neveda required RPO NA9.

Quite an interesting story on it, I'll keep working on this one. I have three one owner cars in the hopper that I'm working on. These cars are tough ones to secure, you just have to stay in touch with the owner and hope you catch them in a selling mood someday.

Bob,
VERY NICE.. You may want to find another set of wheels and tires for driving. Them Repo tires
look great but that’s about it. You will need both hands on the wheel when changing lanes.
Plus it can get a little costly when you want to have some fun. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Belair62

I'm kind of used to ice skating on those bias ply tires...but I have this vintage set of 15X9 T70 torque thrusts but Im not sure if they will work on the front..I love the stock Z wheels but I don't want to take those trim rings off !!!

My question would be, what happened to the rear bumper guards or the 70 Z28 gas pedal holder like this http://ca.geocities.com/[email protected]/images/gas_pedal.jpg

Incorrect: breather, rad support top, other chrome items, headers, front spoiler, side door panels look weird, what else?
If something or someone sounds fishy then there's a reason.
