View Full Version : First Nickey 427 Camaro test ever?

Having recently moved,I'm just getting around to display my hundreds of old car magazines, some of which I haven't seen for many years, judging from the circa 1986 newspaper I used to cushion some. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway, long story short...I happen upon a 1/67 issue of "Tach",the official publication of the AHRA.On the cover (which features a neat rare picture of Tom McEwen boiling the hides in a SOHC Ford powered digger http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif)they claim "First test anywhere of Nickey 427 Camaro"

This is a very through article spanning pages 6-15 and talks in-depth about the Camaro and Nickey Chevrolet. It also features an "option list" w/pricing and a Nickey/Dick Harrell ad with some wild pricing.

If any of you Nickey '67 427 Camaro fans have not seen this article and need it,let me know and I'd be happy to run some off
Just PM me with the info.

Take care,

John

I must confess I am not very computer smart...if I can turn it on & off I'm doing good http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif...but I will ask one of my buddies to see if he can help.

It is 10 pages long so I'm not so sure how long that would take...but my offer of running off some copies still stands.

Guys,

Thanks for the interest.I will start the copying process today and will try to run them out of my work to avoid costs if I can.Sending one to Hawaii may throw up a red flag,I don't know. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

I've gotten replys but no addresses where to send them.My email address is [email protected] and you can leave your information there if you'd like.

Jeff, I may have trouble getting a Hawaii package past my office girls http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif but we can figure something out.

Oh man...there's gold in them there hills! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I was in heaven last night http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif,especially when I pulled out all my pre-1960 stuff.Basically it's all '65-'72 stuff with an slant towards '68-'70 and drag racing in particular.

Love to read them but now the room has that "period correct" smell that has my wife seeing red...to me,it's the smell of a time when the cars were loud and the gas was cheap.

Oh well after all those years...1 out of 2 ain't bad. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Bruce,

I'm beginning to think you're right and as you can see,I ponied-up and became a member. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Hey,where abouts in AZ do you live?I've got a buddy of mine who lives in Mesa and works at a huge Chevy dealer in Superstition Springs I think. He's been to the GM proving grounds and we are working on meeting there next year for Barrett-Jackson.Have you attended before?

I live in Peoria...off of the 17 Fwy heading towards Flagstaff...I'm about 22 miles north of downtown Phoenix...and Scottsdale is about 25 minutes away.

Mesa is about 40 miles from my house.

As far as Barett-Jackson is concerned...click HERE! (http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/102295/page/10/fpart/7/vc/1)

Warning...you'll need an hour or so to get through the pictures...there are quite a few...

The first part you'll have to click on the attachments...after awhile I just included them in the posts.

Enjoy! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

BTW...congrats on joining! This place is soooooo cool!

Great Article; It documents the Dick Harrell Nickey alliance as January of 1966.

Does any one know Guy Tipton, Dick's assistant at Nickey or the author Bruce Young, who actually test drove the Nickey Camaro around the streets of Chicago?

Very http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif, Thanks John!

btw, does anyone have an original copy of the magazine I could purchase?
