Did they have Thorstad emblems - or did they still use the Hult nameplate? I believe it was actually Thorstad in '67 or '68, but they didn't change the name till '70'ish??

I talked to a gentleman at Thorstad that has been there since the late '60s I think...he said he remembers selling quite a few Yenko cars himself back in the day! Anyway, he said they used to use a black & chrome emblem that was stuck on using double sided tape, and that the emblem was very similar to the ones they still use today...

I'm supposed to call him back about, I'll try and remember and run the whole Hult/Thorstad transition by him...

Rob,i believe Marlin is correct. I spoke to Tom Thorstad a while back and he told his granpa was C.J. Thorstad, who was on the list marlin sent me of N.H.R.A. Chevelles. I dont think his granpa, C.J.,ever owned the chevelle they were just trying to set up some more names to qualify for the N.H.R.A. Marlin knows alot more on this subject.

It was definitely still called Hult in May/June of '67. I had a '67 Z from there with the original bill of sale.

Keep an eye out for any HULT emblems if you can. My Yenko is a HULT car and I'd like to find an original emblem if I can.
Thank you!
Mark

I know a certain LS-6 Convert.here that could use a HULT emblem too.
Let us know what you find.

Current "Thorstad Chevrolet" emblem...

Also, didn't mean to imply that Thorstad did *not* sell cars under the Hult nameplate until '69 or '70, but I should have added that I was referring to our '71 built car... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Ok, just got the scoop from Mike Morgan @ Thorstad Chevrolet about the changeover from Hult to Thorstad. Mike said that Thorstad acquired Hult in the latter part of 1965, but the official name change to Thorstad did not come until they changed locations in May 1970 (moved roughly 4 miles - from downtown to out near the beltway).

Damn!! I have those ones. I think that they were a bit later (mid 70s?).

Do you have one of the script style ones?? I had a picture around here somewhere, but can't find it right now...

What are the swirl marks from?

Methinks that the swirl marks are from the emblem spinning around on the deck lid...hence the tape! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This is probably the era you are looking for...Ole Willy's eyes aren't too good anymore with the advancing years so the quality is not the best but thats the right one I think.

another ad from the same year. While its tough (if not impossible) to see in that crummy pic, theres a 70 SS Chevelle sitting in the service bay in that ad above, along with a ton of other neat 70 Chevys.
