I sent you these shots of my car on the advise of Sam Mockingbird 812 . He recommended that I send pictures and a write up of my car for your consideration of the Member's ride section.

It’s a 1969 SS RS Camaro that I believe was an original L78 car but the original drive train was not in the car when I bought it. I just finished installing a Bill Mitchell 540 / 610 hp crate motor and a whole bunch of subtle upgrades to make it work. The car was fully restored when I bought it and there were parts that were chromed on the chassis that I would have preferred been put back to stock. But the car was done this way because the owner wanted the car to be special and this was his way of making it that way. The way it was put back together they had no concern for numbers but most of the parts on the car are GM.

When I found that the car had a single fuel line, higher redline tach and the original power steering pump still had a deep groove pulley I was pleasantly surprised.

I will send a couple of pictures now to see if you are interested or not. It’s the best car that I will ever own but I do not know if its in the same league as most of the other cars that I have seen on this website. I am trying to sell this car right now and I do not want the exposure for that reason, its just a neat car in my humble opinion and like I said before it’s the best car I will ever own. I have 3 younger age kids and the way these cars are appreciating I will never afford another car like this and I can not put this much money in a car and pay for the kids education in the future.

<font color="red"> Mark, I think that your Camaro is a neat car..and you sent the info to me before you put it up for sale. Finally, I think your Camaro more than qualifies to be a Members Ride!http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is one sweet clean ride....I'd consider letting the kids pay for their own educations and hanging on to it!!
I know I would have a greater appreciation for my education had my parents made me pay for it myself.
So it'd probably be good for them, if you kept the car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

The insurance companies say White cars are safer, and are involved in fewer accidents. Let 'em take a look at this baby! Not exactly Grandma's White Buick. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hang on to it Mark. Like you said; the way these cars are appreciating you can sell it AFTER the kids are through school. (Use it as a retirement plan!)

Very, very http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

To quote Rob on a previous car , "http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif and I'd give it more if I had them!"

What a killer car. Has my dream engine too: a Bill Mitchell 540. I couldn't bring myself to sell such a car! You'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif x 100!

Very cool car! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I wouldn't sell it either.
How are the power brakes working with that monster "540" motor? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Thanks everybody for the compliments on the car. I do not think the car wants to get sold either. On Saturday I took the car to an informal car show that is held every Saturday morning at a doughnut shop by my house here in Huntington Beach. I took a little detour before I went home. It seemed that the car was starting to foul a plug or 2 so I thought a little drive down the street would help. The car stalled at a light and would not start for about 15 minutes. I got it started and limped home. It was running so rich that it used about a quarter of a tank in about 4 miles and fouled the plugs. I get to tear the carb apart this week and see what went wrong. This local car show is not Pavilions but I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of cars that just pop up out of nowhere. Pretty much everything ends by 8:30am or when our wives wake up. The power brakes work pretty close to what I would expect from a factory solid lifter motor. I have not measured the vacuum but I would say it works better than it did with the LS6 that I had in the car last year. The bigger problem was finding the right valve covers to look like they came from that era and clear the roller rockers and the power brake booster. The next problem is making sure the rally sport front end is leak free and hooking it up to the motor. I hope I have enough vacuum to run both.

Mark...I know of the car cruise at the donut shop in HB that you're referring to...I've been there a couple of times myself. You definitely have to get up early to get to that show. In fact...let me know if it's going this weekend...We will be in SoCal. I just might try and get out there http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

You car is cool. Again, thanks so much for sharing it with all of us http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Bruce, They pretty much meet every Saturday as long as the weather allows for it. If you are bringing a car, you need to be there before 6:00am to get a good parking space. If you want to see all the cars try to be there before 7:00am because some of the cars are already leaving by then. Its kind of neat because I walk the whole lot about 8 times and a new car will pop up filling in a empty parking space. E-mail me at [email protected] if you need directions or if you want to meet up.

Those are Motion decals I have had around the house for years. I am sure they are reproductions. I also have 1969 Pomona Winternationals, Old style NHRA and AHRA decals I thought about putting on the car, maybe on the rear bumper. But I think I am getting close to having to much. I want to have a look that I remember from that era but I still want to be subtle.

Mark, I had a similar problem with my Chevelle a few years back. I found a hole in the front float. It had filled with gas and was leaving the needle valve open, flooding the bowl and sending WAY too much fuel to the engine.
Maybe something to look for when you get inside the carb. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Either way Mark, it'll be fun.

I played a *bit* of a practical joke on Mark...acting as if I was an irate customer...too funny. He handled it well. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It seems that Mark and my wife know a lot of the same people (small world!). Mark is currently employed where my wife worked for 15 + years...after everyone found out that we were there to see Mark...we had top make the rounds throughout the company http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Go ahead and rub salt in the wound Bill. I deserve it especially after I dump about 4 times the money in this car of what I paid for yours. To be honest I still prefer your old car because it ran so well and all the bugs were out of it. What new projects do you have going?

Mark, after I sold you my pride ad joy 69 Camaro, I bought a 71 SS-454 Chevelle and did a frame off on it. Then I bought a 68 SS-396 Chevelle and went thru the same process. I sold the 71 and stuck the cash in a secret car fund and I'm waiting for the right car to come along. In the mean time, I have the 68 all finished and I've been trailering it up and down the east coast, attending a bunch of Chevelle shows, and various Super Chevy and AACA shows.
Here's a shot of the 68 at the ACES show in Nashville.

I have not seen the car in person but I know Bill's work and I am certain that this Chevelle is spectacular in person. Bill is good friends with ALbert and if you have been following the progress of his COPO car you will see the detail and quality that these guys do. This whole Camaro sickness started for me when I could not get the money fast enough to buy the orange 69 SS RS with the ZL1 that ALbert built and sold several years ago.
