I've got some photos of cars I had dealings with in the early 70's, and they're interesting in that they show what gearheads of the time were doing. Wheel choices, stances, modifications and that kind of thing. Some later photos too.
Anyway, on with the show.
This first car was owned and built by the guy who ran the Shell station at Vancouver International Airport. It was the first blown street car that I had any dealings with, and it sounded wild. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
I think these photos were Sept. 73.

I blew the photo up to try to read the gas price, but couldn't make it out. Check out the oil can display. How long has it been since we bought oil in cans?

Enjoy, John

Whatever the price of gas was in September, it would soon double in early '74, due to the first OPEC lead "oil crises". I'll bet it didn't see much action after that.
Really cool Camaro! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Awesome photos- thanks for sharing http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Looks like a 75 Malibu in the background of the first pic, so I'd guess that as the date.

Pretty cool Shell station period pic!
I'd like to have those A.O.Smiths,as well as that metal windshield station. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well, I hooked up the scanner to my new laptop, and went round in circles for awhile. I figured out it works a different way on this computer. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Anyway, here's the next one. This car was owned by the guy a few houses down from me. He had a string of Hipo Pontiacs ending up with this one. This photo is from 1971. He went through a few Pontiac motors with this car and finally ended up putting a 435 Hp 427 in it. He bought the engine from Lincoln Auto Wreckers just north of Seattle and put a big Holley carb and Edelbrock manifold on it and headers. This car had power everything on it and ran a 13:00 on it's first pass. It was a 4spd car. The custom paint was by 'Boots Pinstriping' in Vancouver BC, and was pretty wild for the time.
I'd have to say that this guy had a huge influence on me getting into cars. There were always nice cars hanging around his house, and guys going through the gears as they left.
Back then the high riding look was in vogue. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry this one is a little blurry. It's a 67 Beaumont SD396 taken about 1971 at the Vancouver Custom Car Show. Nice color combo, black with red.

This 427 Biscayne was from Bellingham WA, and I saw it at different events over the years. I think, by the wheels it has on it, that this photo is late 70's, early 80's.

I've been living in Alberta now for about 10 years, so I've lost track of a lot of people and cars in the Pacific Northwest. If my memory serves me correctly, this car appeared in a readers rides section of Hot Rod a few years ago. Other than that I can't tell you much more. It was a cool car, and for sale at one time, but he hung onto it as he didn't get the money he wanted. I looked at it myself but thought it was too much at the time. I have lots of 'kicking myself' bruises.

Here was a pro street Camaro built by a friend. Can't remember too much about it though, other than the rather daring color. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This one looks more like a race car than a street car. I saw this one sitting in Port Moody BC in the late 70's.

Heres a few of my dad's old cars... the first 2 are of his hugger orange 56 Chevy with shortened side trim. In the background of the 2nd pic you can see my uncle's 3 day old 70 Roadrunner. He still owns it today, and its as nice as it was in 70.

A bit blurry... (sorry), but here's his 69 Nova, taken probably around 1970. That's my mom in the foreground. Note the "Novacane" hand painted front vanity tag.

StriperSS

It looks flared to me too. Years ago when you went to look at a car, and the fenders were flared, you knew it was to repair rust. I'm not saying that in this case, but that seemed to be the way rust was dealt with back then.

I found a couple more photos of friends cars. This would be 1982 or 83.
This 67 Pro Street car belonged to a friend in White Rock, BC. I don't remember much about it anymore.

I hope this qualifies.

It's not an old photo but a current one of an original "Day 2" '69 Hemi Roadrunner with a 4-Speed.

This car looks just the same as it did when I was a kid in the 70s and 80's.

Man, just look at that. Black "crinkle" M/Ts, Moroso gold anodized air cleaner, high-rise intake and headers. We sure had it good, didn't we? The radio station played "Ah, Leah" by Donnie Iris on the way home last night and WHAM, it was suddenly a Friday night in 1982. I wish there was a place where it was still 1982.
