Sorry that this its late but...with work and the recent back injury...well http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Enjoy!

Here are some pics of my 1969 Impala SS427 L72, numbers matching, restored,
documented.

This 1969 Impala SS427 Custom Coupe was purchased from Don Norem
Chevrolet/Buick, Inc. of Bozeman, MT. The original owner (1969-2003) has
been contacted, as has the original selling dealership owner, both
confirming the L72 pedigree. The current 512 CE (the original was removed in
1976 due to poor fuel efficiency and it's whereabouts unknown) block was
assembled to stock specs with correct date coded components. In deference to
GTODON, I like the snorkle air cleaner and don't care about the missing smog
system . The trans. and rear axle are original to the car, as is most
everything else. The car was rust-free except for spots on the front fenders
and hood, which were replaced with parts from a donor car of the same color.

The Impala came with the Z24 option package and included the following:
- Frost Lime exterior color
- Black vinyl interior w/ front bucket seats
- Black vinyl top
- Console
- Tilt Steering
- AM radio
- 8 track tape player w/multiplex (it works )
- Tinted glass
- L72 425ci/425hp engine
- M21 close-ratio Muncie 4 speed transmission
- 3.55:1, 12-bolt posi-traction rear axle
- Simulated wire wheel covers
- Power steering and power brakes

Cool car; one question, back when they were new how were they viewed by the street crowd? Were they feared or looked at as a big car with a big engine? With all of the nasty cars coming out of Detroit back then I wonder if the guys on the street paid much attention to these cars.

Very nice car Joe. It is always nice to see these cars get the attention and recognition they deserve. Not a small musclecar but a musclecar none the less. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I can tell you with absolute certainty how my street crowd viewed them....as nonexistent http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I don't think I ever saw one until the mid 80's!

I know the only time I got recognition was when I drove mine to the beach and that was ONLY because it was a convertible. My coupe won many a street race and that did not even help nor did the three 1983 magazine features. People just did not consider the big cars much of anything.

I remember the two times I visited Super Chevy Sunday at Indy. Very few people had a clue what it was or cared. The second year I went (1983) I parked next to Floyd Garret's '69 SS427 and a few more people noticed but still no clue. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif It honestly has only been in the last few years that people have noticed these cars.

Thanks for sharing such a unique car....It reminds me of a similar '69 Impala SS I owned back in the late 80's in California. It was a 390 hp 427 with 3 on the tree with a factory "shifter delete" plate on the console. Still have the build sheet....I guess the original owner forgot to check the transmission option box!

That would look excellent, make quite a pair. I appreciate all of the compliments. This car is one of my favorites - rides like a dream, runs like a demon and sounds great, people are not sure what to think of it, don't believe it is a factory car.

very cool! like Rick said its been only in the last few years that the 69/70's have been given the credit they deserve. They to were in a war of their own vs full size 440 powered mopars and 428/429 slinging Ford XL's. low production, high horsepower need we say more??

question, how does everyone on here pronounce Impala???
do you pronounce it sounding like the name Paul is in the middle or pronounce it like the word Pal is in the middle?
