Once you guys have your brake Master cylinders or wheel cylinders rebuilt, are you using DOT 3,DOT 4,DOT 5 or DOT 5.1 fluid?
And what does White Post recommend for either one of those re-sleeved as well? Thanks. |

Dot 4 is recommended by Mike Gibbons. He says the new style seals don't like Dot 5. He also uses stainless steel instead of brass. The brass is too soft & can scratch easy...Joe |

*Lone Star Caliper states: DOT 3 or DOT 4 Brake Fluids are compatible with their calipers, but they do NOT recommend DOT 5 as well and will VOID the warranty on any Calipers. I have used both for over 30 years and only had (1) master cylinder fail internally and that was on the 1979 Trans Am I just sold. Billy at White Post turned it around at no charge in 4 days, Top Notch! You can't go wrong with either Company Bill |
I second White post BUT - a FYI -if you do booster at same time its a package deal, if you send booster in couple months later its couple hundred more. Ive had master restored and master that was sleeved W/O exterior restoration

Rick i use Dot 3 fluid and that's what White Post said to use.

I had a real poor experience with White Post after using them for years. Wouldn’t go back. A master was incorrectly rebuilt and a caliper leaked both right after rebuild. I asked them to ship UPS they tried to save a buck and send USPS. Parts got lost for weeks and they wanted nothing to do with it.

I'm not sure what has changed but have used synthetic fluid in various cars since 1978 without issue. I have a car which has silicone fluid since 2001 and zero leakage/issues.
I've heard stainless steel sleeves and the new seals are the issue. I believe most if not all rebuilders will not warranty due to leakage issues. |
IIRC (been a while) the chemical make up of silicone fluid changed a while back causing a reaction to the (old and new) seals used in our old cars.
Maybe someone here has more definitive info on this?? - Bill W |
I just had a MC rebuilt by WP for my 74 Ventura and it took almost 2 months. We had some communication issues too. I just about gave up when it showed up in the mail yesterday. I'll see if it works today. I've had several done in the past by them with quality work and decent turn times.
