Supercar Registry

I have talked "Bergy" into being the keeper-compiler of the Supercar Registry. I am working on getting software installed on the site to make it easier but for now you can PM or email Bergy to input cars for the registry. The existing database is lacking and needs to be updated. If you have a Supercar and want it in the database you should contact Bergy. I'm sure Bergy will chime in. Be nice to him because his pay sucks...

Re: Supercar Registry

The real purpose of the registry is to preserve the legacy of these Supercars. Many of us who have been in the hobby for a while have our own data bases that we have collected over the years. At some point, it's time to confront the fact that we're not getting any younger (especially me), and we need to preserve the known data about each car. The registry is asking owners (and former owners) to register their cars, and enthusiasts to share your data. Think of this as a contribution, a legacy, to the hobby that we love and enjoy. We realize that many of the contributors to this site have spent countless hours tracking down information on the Supercars. You could easily say - "why should I give away information that I worked so hard to uncover?". Well, the simple answer is "why not?". You can't take it with you. It makes sense (to me) to place the information in a repository where it can be permanently stored, collated, and cross referenced. Sure - keep information about hidden treasures if you must, but share what you can.
Soooo....we are asking OWNERS and FORMER OWNERS - to PM me with their email address to get the form to register their cars. We are asking ALL ENTHUSIASTS to send in information that they have gathered on individual Supercars (submit it by scans, faxes, snail mail, etc.). If copying is a pain - send in the files and I'll make copies - originals will be returned fully and securely. All information will be collated and cross referenced for accuracy. This data will not be made public (initially) and the names of the contributors will not be disclosed without their permission. Ultimately, it would be great to have a public registry (think Shelby Registry), but that is way down the road. The site will acknowledge cars that are officially registered. We have all seen cars that are advertised as "registered on the Supercar web site". The truth is that cars may appear on the VIN list, but they are not "registered". Please - let's get them officially REGISTERED.

Bruce is the man to do it. I have seen some of his records and his material and paperwork on the cars he is looking for and cars he owns. A walking encyclopedia in my opinion. Easy man to talk to also.

What about supercars with &quot;troubled&quot; histories? Cars with accused trim and vin tag discrepancies and/or body swaps? How will those cars be handled if there is conflicting views of the history or authenticity (some BM cars come to mind.) Just trying to figure out what will be allowed to be registered with the website? Any criteria?

Never even seen that.. LOL thanks for clarification.

So if I have a converted car from a Chevrolet dealership with paper work it would be concidered a super car?

Say I bought an L78 camaro, chevelle, Nova ETC, and had my local dealership convert it to an L88? Would that be considered? I guess Gm wouldn't warranty the car if the motor was changed. Did the known dealers that did conversions warranty there conversions?

Just trying to understand what clarifys a dealer supercar?

bergy 10-01-2013 03:49 PM

Re: Supercar Registry

Good question. I thought that the dealer converted Supercars were going to be from the dealers listed under &quot;Pictures and Production Info&quot; (left side of the site home page). Feel free to submit your info though - better to have too much data then too little.

Forms are being sent out - good response so far. You can also email your request directly to me at [email protected] if it's easier. Thanks, Bruce

So that means L-88 Corvettes/LS-6 Chevelle et al, for the purpose of registration on this site, are not defined as Supercars as they were not modified by dealerships and are not COPO's?

Nor any non-Chevrolet car as well?

Good concept, but I'm curious on the execution. Any info on the general concept (i.e. what would be online)?
I've looked for the Shelby Registry, but I don't see much public info - just submission forms. So I'm not quite sure how accessible that registry is.

Thanks!

The Shelby registry is in print and is huge. They publish it about every 15 years or so and it includes all know info on all the cars they know about. All known owners, sales, wrecks, options etc. Great info. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...hotoshelby.jpg

Re: Supercar Registry

Good questions Kurt - the Shelby Registry was first published in 1973 and was only 24 pages long. As Charley posted above, the latest iteration is contained in 2 volumes with nearly 3,000 total pages (and that's only the &quot;public&quot; portion). The point is that it was started with very humble beginnings by a few enthusiasts, and grew into a huge document that truly enhances the legacy and value of the cars. It also immortalizes the owners/restorers/caretakers of the cars. My name is shown as former owner of several of the cars - I have seen Charley's name mentioned in there as well. Shelby did have the advantage of factory production records, but the effort was started without any ability to decipher the records. I'm a &quot;vision&quot; guy with a bent for data - my vision for this project is huge, but it depends on data. That's where the community comes in. We obviously need registrations to make a registry meaningful. There have been a good number of requests for registration forms so far. Keep it up - there's only one way to honestly say that your car is included in the Supercar Registry!
Also, I am just the data collector and first registrar right now. I don't want or need any credit for this project. I'll collect data until it overwhelms me (hopefully). It'll take a lot of dedicated, unselfish people to make this happen. How about if we open registrations up to cars through 1970 for now. Shelby started with only Cobras, and grew into the inclusion of later cars. Thoughts???

Re: Supercar Registry

Thanks Charlie. I thought the Shelby registry was public in some form, but had never seen the books before.
Impressive. Helps to have the docs behind those cars, but there are also docs out there for the Yenkos, so you're not starting with a blank slate.

Re: Supercar Registry

The Shelby registry used to be one book and it was published in 1997. Now it is the two books pictured and a third one is still being written to cover 1968 and up.

Re: Supercar Registry

I would say at least through 1973 if the focus is more on the older supercars. There were a number of Baldwin Motion Camaros, Chevelles, and Vegas built in the '71-73 period that certainly meet the site's definition of a supercar.

I have been getting some inquiries with regard to whether or not it is necessary to re-register supercars that have been registered in years past. The answer is <span style="font-weight: bold">YES</span>![/i][/u]. We want to make sure that the data is up to date and the submissions are as complete as possible. If there is any question about whether your supercar is registered - please PM me the VIN and your email address. Please contact me to re-register even if you no longer own the car - we still need your info.

Will the registry information be available to the public as the Shelby records are? Will there be any costs involved to access such information if available?

Re: Supercar Registry

The goal is to have a public registry, with public access to basic information. This is NOT a data hoarding exercise. It is a project that is being undertaken as a service to the Supercar community. Folks who register their car(s) have the option of leaving any info that they wish out of public view (Shelby Registry does this). It is not necessary to fill out ever detail on the registration form to have your car officially registered. Ultimately, I'd love to see a published registry with pictures and all of the detailed info about each car (probably a fee to off set expenses there). I'm getting some really neat &quot;as found&quot; pictures back.

OK - sounds like we should register cars through 1973 for now. Let's go with it - it's your community registry, I'm just the clerk!

A lot of registration forms have been going out - and dozens returned already. Keep it up!!!!

Bump - We've got mostly COPO Camaros and Chevelles so far (including Yenkos). With some really neat photos included. If you want to register your car (or a car that you owned in the past) - PM me your email address and I'll get a registration form out to you.

I just thought that I'd point out that Charley got the registration link working. If you want to register your car, you can click on the &quot;Register your Supercar with the Supercar Registry&quot; line on the SYC home page. A request form will pop up for you to submit. It's easy!!!!

bergy 12-21-2013 11:29 AM

Re: Supercar Registry

Registry update - There are currently 760 VINs on the Supercar spreadsheet (398 VINs for 1969 Camaros). We are trying to get the data complete enough to post the first iteration of the public list. If you want your car included, please send in your completed registration form. You do not need to fill in every blank on the form to be registered (it would be nice though!). If you're not sure if your car is registered, you can email me at [email protected] to check (please use email, PM box fills up too quickly).
Thanks &amp; have a GREAT Christmas!

Registry is very important, you take me for instance, I'm trying to locate my yenko I purchased from my friend thurman Munson and one of the only things I got going for me is a x girlfriend who holds my title and the fact that my car was registered sync and Don yenko lists between 79-83. Back than they stated your name, state, year make model color and even vin # of your car. Now I'm hoping anyone with a copy of 79-83 lists with my name or SYC or yenko lists can shoot me a copy cause I never sold the car.

Not with me now. A lot in storage. I was at the funeral I sat behind the kids . A lot of people showed up with their show cars out of respect for him .he loved cars. For several years they use to have a car show in memory of thurman and I would try to make it all the time. A lot of great people would show with their cars

I had and have cars and motorcycles from several famous people each with a great story behind all. But none like the yenko I got from thurmon. That was the start of it all... Thurman taught me a lot in a short time and was a very good friend. I always kept a picture of thumb and the kids in the car at all times it was my favorite car. There are a lot of good memories
