How many miles per year...$75k - $100k Car?
Just curious...those who have muscle cars in the $75k - $100k value range...how many miles do you drive them per year? Around here, I see lots os $40k drivers, but seldom see anything more valuable than that and I know there are lots up here.

I drive my Judge no more then 40-60 miles a year. The Torino about 75-100 miles a year
Thanks Frank. I figured that I might do 75 to 100 tops myself just once per week to the local cruise night.
I think my Camaro has gotten close to 20k miles on it over the last 3 years.
400 to 1500 per year. But I'm fortunate to live in sunny So Cal. My Duster has 1600 miles on it since last years MCACN show.
We drive the 69 Z about 1000 miles a year. The 70 LT1 Vette maybe 200-300? The 67 427/390 survivor Corvette... maybe 1-2 miles?
We suppose to drive them???? Seriously?
My wife says we are Ed!
Sorry folks -- just lookin' at em' is not enjoying em' ... if they can't be driven, what good are they. We have enough carpet cars in the world -- classic's need to be driven to enjoy ... IMHO ... TAZ
I drive all my cars, have no idea of the mileage, but I take them out in the warm weather at least 3 times a week... just local cruise nights, shows and breweries

But seriously, interesting post. I’d say for me, 1 to 3 miles tops. I sell them after they’re done and don’t own one long enough to drive them!!:3gears: Or the other reason that comes to mind is it sits too long so when I go to start it, something breaks, leaks, or something else that causes cars not to start which I can’t figure out happens, so I go home frustrated and try the following week! Hey, you know? That then usually leads into the first point!!!:hmmm: HA! Cheers Dave |
I always keep one car in Florida and drive it regularly over the winter - probably 500-1,000 miles. The "trailer queens" just get driven around the block several times a year.
Whatever the value of my cars which range from 50K to 200k I drive them at least a tank of gas per year others more not only to replenish fresh cam2 110 leaded but to keep gaskets and seals from drying up. I always say “ you can’t drive them when you’re dead” life is too short.
Each time I make run down the 1320 I add a little more than a mile to mine. By the time I drive from the pits to the lanes, do a burnout, make a run, slow down and drive back it totals to over a mile. So to answer your question, I don’t add too much to the odometer, but I’d be willing to bet my “fun per mile driven” is among the highest percentage! When the Camaro gets finished, should be on par with the Olds. Great topic of conversation by the way!

I don't own anything in that price range ! but my 67 Camaro I built almost 30 years ago gets driven the most & hardest, maybe 600 miles a year ? My "unrestored/survivor" 70 RS Z/28 had 32,266 miles on it when I got it in 2011, now has 33,900, I usually go thru 2 tanks off gas a year in it , And I just recently found a 3 owner 'unrestored/original paint 86,000 mile 68 Corvette 427 coupe, that I plan to let my wife & I drive the hell out of it !!! Life & Work are way to hectic to to have the time be able to get them out more. but mostly I love just hanging in the garage tinkering,& looking at them ,especially during the colder months. But I day dream all day, everyday about them. Just knowing their in the there ready to go when the garage doors comes up !!! sorry for the long post guys

Insure the heck out of them, choose off hours to drive and enjoy the ride.

Too many drivers are preoccupied today with electronic devices.Be afraid of that more then anything else.I pick odd hours of the week to stretch my cars legs. I was on the expressway one early Sunday AM doing doing 25 over the limit.Cop pulled me over, and asked why? I told him because it's the safest time of the week to do this..He grinned, told me to slow down & let me go.. :burnout: |
how many miles...

My insurance policy allows 2500 miles per year for each car. I have a 1969 427 corvette and a 1969 Camaro SS 396. I drive them both to there Max miles per my current policy.

Sadly, I am one of those guys that worries it will get chipped, smashed or I just will put too many miles on it. I have been this way for 40 years. The good news, I never have a problem selling my stuff because it’s so nice!!
My wife drives our 69 RS Z daily. She put just over 10,000 miles on it last year alone. I drive some of our others a similar amount. Year round driving weather in AZ does that.
I'm with Bergy!!
I drove the Silver Z I just finished - concourse resto - drove it to the Pavilions 45 miles each way, mostly to shake it down but it ran great, and showed great, and was a blast to drive! |
X77 car? Looked really good last night. Nicely done.
We drove ours down last night, 270 mile round trip for me with a stop over in Fountain Hills on our way through. |
Yep - Cortez Silver

Amen to those who “really” drive your cars. No offense to anyone but I can not imagine owning a muscle car no matter the value and not driving it. I live in Dallas TX and really this is the best time of the year for these old cars. Nice and cool in the 50’s. I am lucky enough to run around with some guys that have the same passion as me. We meet up for breakfast on nice sunny Saturday mornings and then all go out for some spirited driving while heading to some sort of a car event :) Miles per year? I really have no idea.

That's great to hear. We stopped daily driving new cars a few years ago. Tired of the electronics and things. Was my wife's idea. She's old school and wanted to make the Z hers to drive, so I did. I'm all for the idea and we have the weather year round to support it so why not. I used to be the guy that rarely drove them. Then realized she was right. I was tired of seeing the cars sit with minimal enjoyment, and we aren't getting any younger so my mindset has changed. Now we drive them everywhere.
Love hearing that you stopped driving new cars. How cool! These new cars are just appliances to me. The new pony cars are pretty darn ugly, but they do perform and I respect them for that only.
I guess I'm a bit spoiled having a great 80 mile loop through the foothills of the Canadian Rocky's where I drive my cars. About 500-800 miles a year for most of mine, but some are driven twice that and the value of them doesn't matter with me.

I took my 1970 LS5 convertible survivor on a 300 mile drive through the Rocky Mountains last year and she performed flawlessly. I enjoyed every single mile of that trip!
Like most things in life, if you don’t use it you’ll lose it. These cars need their exercise once in a while or they’ll dry up. |
For those of you in the concrete Jungles and maze of Metropolitan Interstates with toll roads, here's what Helmut and I have are lucky enough to have at our back door. Unlimited 2 lane black top...no toll roads, and best of all...no traffic! :)
Doesn't matter if you drive them everyday or just admire then sitting in the garage,we are keeping the hobby alive and strong!!
Thanks for all of the responses! I wasn’t putting anyone’s cars down with the price range I stated, that is just the value of a lot of the cars that I am interested in pursuing and I wondered if my thoughts on the number of miles I might do per year was similar to others. I got out of owning muscle cars about 10 years ago because of the crazy prices, fraud and the fact that I barely drove them. Tried air cooled Porsches and drove about 1,000 miles per year the first few years and that number dwindled as values climbed and driving in the city got worse. My wife and I have been rear ended 3 times in the past 3 years by distracted drivers. It has literally gotten to the point of choosing my routes etc. When in a fun car or when I was on my vintage Harleys to stay away from higher traffic areas. I finally sold all 3 of my bikes last year because i was becoming nervous when riding due to all of the idiots out there! I put only 230 miles on my 993 this Summer...
So perhaps it is time for me to just accept that I won’t drive them that much and that is OK. I spend most weekends in the garage and enjoy puttering around out there with my toys and talking to buddies that stop by. |
