69 COPO Chevelle
Cleaned off firewall and uncovered crayon marks. Paint code is -- on trim tag and came Orange from factory. Looks like someone wrote ORG for orange and there is a cursive B on top of it which I assume means bench seat?

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
How did you clean the firewall?
Ryan |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Stand about 6ft from firewall with the sand blaster and gently blow across it.

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Thanks.
You are going way deeper than I am so I need a less aggressive way:-) Ryan |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Jeff,
Here's the picture of the firewall marking on my 69 COPO. There's more writing than that, but haven't be able to decipher it. Interestingly enough, these letters can be seen on an early photo of the car sent to me by the original owner. Phil http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...pshdoa0vvz.jpg |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
What's the story on this Chevelle. Was this car just found???
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
I cleaned my firewall on my L-78 M-22 Indy with lacquer thinner and a rag and all the markings became very visible verifying the M-22 and other options... there is a thread here somewhere with the pics.

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Nice Jeff. You could barely see the letters when the paint was there, but not well enough to make them out.

She is in Great Hands - Owner and Restorer :-) I like how the previous car - without mentioning the car - got the boot off the Rotisserie for the COPO For those of you new guys this is not Jeff's first COPO Chevelle Dan |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Looks good Jeff.
I think I bought the car in 2008, maybe 2007, it's been a while. I knew I wasn't going to get to it anytime soon, so it's great seeing you restoring it. Until I sold the car to Jeff, it had never left SE Michigan.... |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Better picture notice where they taped the cardboard down on each sidehttp://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...pswgz40tyq.jpg

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Detroit Michigan will do that to your car.
John Obeginski (Obie) bought this car new from Chumbley Chevy in the Detroit area. He lived in a trailer park off Ecorse Rd in Belleville MI The motor and trans sold in the 70's. If you bought my engine and trans please let me know so I can put it back with the car . It was raced at the Detroit Dragway and Milan maybe someone remembers the car. |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Very cool. It will be way nice when done. Was cool to meet George at the SC reunion. Tell him I said hi.

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Thanks Ken!
Dave I still have a 68 L-79 Nova being put together. This is Phil W.'s COPO Chevelle package shelf built on Wednesday June 18th 1969 http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...psleoqzarg.jpg This is mine built Wednesday June 25th 1969 they must have ran out of the fat masking tape http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...pswgz40tyq.jpg |

The shed's roof began to leak just above the centerline of the front fenders, so the core support and front suspension are considerably more rusty than the rest of the car. |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Boy seems like a great bunch of muscle cars came from the good old motor city

Jeff,
Your COPO and Phil's COPO are both exceptional COPO's.....both being build on Wednesday Dan |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
do you have black interior on trim tag?
I think the chalk "B" on the firewall is black interior My orange black top bucket seat 427 Chevelle has the same chalk marks on firewall I thought "B" was for black top but yours has no black top I don't think "B" is bench seat because it can't be for both bench and bucket so I am thinking "B" is black interior maybe for black paint interior trim work |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Good point Joe. I was told that the "B" was bench and "BU" was bucket don't know how true that is. It is 755 interior .

Nah... looks fairly typical for anything this age in the rust belt that was driven on salt covered roads in the winter months. There are definitely lots of cars like that in PA. You guys down south don't know just how good you have it! |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
Looks like Refer White was a popular color over Monaco Orange back in the day
Any progress updates ? |

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle
The casting date (Julian) of the calipers are pictured,
The assembly dates are stamped in the machined surface under the caliper frame these are approx 20 days from casting to machining and are from a 12C Camaro. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ov2014_040.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ov2014_039.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ov2014_041.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ov2014_042.jpg |

I love to see a 69 swinging from a rotisserie buddy. I was wondering do you have any more pics of the trunk pan install you care to share. |
