1967 rs/ss L78

I'm please that a car I owned from 1995 to 2002 has returned. The car had 19,800 when I purchased it in 95, and now 20,346. It was purchased new at the famed Baldwin Auto Company, in Baldwin, NY on Aug 3rd. It still wears its original paint, and has a few factory options: Tahoe Turquoise, SS, RS, tinted windshield, wood simulated wheel, console, gages & AM/FM, and the best option of all factory 456 posi rear axle. The car is very original in every area except I rebuilt the engine and detailed the engine compartment since it had already been incorrectly painted. I actually purchased it from the original owner through a middle man, but I did meet him and he provided some racing history and a racing diary. And yes the original born with drivetrain is still under the hood. I'll be posting more info and history in the members rides forum shortly.

Had to turn this photo around, and add a photo of my twin... also a Tahoe Turquoise ‘67 SS/RS survivor (but only a 350 under the hood).

Love that car Steve - especially in that color and a survivor to boot!

Another 4K
Good looking ride Steve. Nice color combo. Does Rare 4K have this one on his registery?

Hi Richard, i remember when Mike S. owned and sold you that car. Your car is really amazing. I looked for the 4k registry, but it looks like the website no longer exist. I have every # documented. This is a 7b built car and has a F87cast 323 block assembled T0630MQ. |
Congrats Steve...one of the best 67 L78’s!

I remember when you tried to help me buy this one from the guy who you sold it to. Just couldn’t put a deal together on it. Ironically, I was looking through some old paperwork last week and came across our correspondence on the car. Super car and so glad to see it back in your hands so others will get a chance to see it again!

My 06A built has a 406 block. I noticed your temp sending unit is in the intake like mine. I've heard that some of the late built 4K's the unit was in the head like 68 and up cars.
I learned a lot about these cars by going over the Bat Car when Sherman owned. It was a very correct car. |
Wonderful car, Steve. Congratulations.
|
I have a pair of 67 heads dated Aug 7 & Aug 24th, the 24th dated head is drilled for the temp sender in the head and the Aug 7 head is not drilled.

Mike who I sold the car to sent me a few pics of the car when he had it with with the steelies and dog dish caps. I'm trying to hunt them down, or I'll find replacements.
Love the look!!!!! |

Steve, did the original owner put the spoilers on it?

I'd say a lot of dealers put spoilers on later built cars to dress them up. My deck lid has the inside holes for spoiler bolt access but one was never installed.
Is the fuel pump to carb line on your car OEM? |
Quote:
I haven't had the car picked up because its brutally cold where the car resides. Not where its stored inside (65deg), but when transported back. Its been -22 and I'm hesitant because I'd hate to see the seat crack if the transporter moved the car after linitial pick up. |
Your line is like mine and many other cars we see, it's a re pop. I've got some old pictures of Sherman's car and at the point where the almost 90 degree bend is that extra bend down toward the carb is not there. I met a guy from Columbus OH that had a 4K car and he showed me correct NOS one he had. I've never seen one advertised for sale but I'm sure someone has one.
The fuel line that comes from the rear to the pump. Is it's last strap on one of the engine stool bolt or a bolts tapped into the frame just before the stool? Oops I forgot the cars not there. Well that's something we can discuss later. My car is in the stool bolt with no tapped hole in the frame but Shermans car was the hole in frame method. My car has a big sway bar, Sherman's had a small one. There's difference in these cars and I'm not sure build date times have anything to do with it. |

We should get these cars together at MCACN some time. Here's my '67 4K "as found" with the owner.
|
I shipped a 1969 Dodge RT w/16,500 miles from Calif. to Ohio in winter time. I put my knee on the back seat to remove the for sale sign left taped to the back window, and the seat vinyl shattered like a thin sheet of ice. I couldn't believe it.

4K's coming out of the woodwork!
