How, in this day and age, does a guy get a lame sentence like that? Poor chance that the prosecutor would win?

I have a friend who was on one of those cheating spouse sites being a scumbag and looking to cheat on his wife (he's actually a decent guy who was married for years and years to his HS sweetheart and was just looking for something new - not defending, just telling the truth) who started conversing with a girl who was 20. Talked about meeting, etc. then she said she was 14, but she said she was joking when he said are you serious? She wants alcohol, etc., he says no but he'll meet her out in front of the movies on the way to watch a hockey game. He shows up, cops bust him. Prosecutor threatens to expose the husband's sins to the wife's boss at her work, etc. - threatens HER(!?!?!??!) and he ends up 3 years in the big house for, essentially, nothing. And this guy actually does get nothing? WTH is up with that?

State of California... Liberal sentencing, no surprise...

What I don't understand is how the defendant is not registered as a sexual offender. This sex crime, more than any other, is deserving of that...

Unless of course we don't have the entire story or this is "fake news"....

Not fake news, was hoping someone on here who lives in that area & has been following this, might be able to shed more light.

This is so beyond sick and depraved!! I have two wonderful granddaughters, aged 3 and 1 and if something like this ever happened to them, they wouldn't even find the guy that did it. Just saying........
I live in California and it's getting sicker by the day!! Sanctuary state and all that crap!! Hoping we can at least get a Republican on the ballot for Governor this time!!

From rare parts website:

STATEMENT

On behalf of Rare Parts, Inc. I wish to express my sadness for the crime attributed to our company’s founder and former company officer. What makes this particularly painful is that the person I am referring to is my father. As a father myself, I feel horrible for any victim of child molestation and their families. As the company president, I also feel horrible for our loyal employees.

Lyle Burgess has not been involved in our business operations since 2014, two years before the incident occurred.

We can understand why people in the community are angry over the plea bargain, but neither I nor our company played any role in the disposition of this criminal matter. As the president of this company for over 13 years, I am proud of our employees, our integrity and professionalism. I hope to have the opportunity to maintain the trust of our customers.

True, can't blame the company for the actions of this individual....

rich, very true. that is why i posted that statement. I would hate to see the son lose his business because of this, if the stated facts are true.
