Used shock absorber sprayed with undercoating

I have a used set of shock absorbers that have some undercoating on them. What do you use to loosen this undercoating to remove?

Depending on how much perhaps a wire wheel.. I have used a wire brush & propane torch to remove under coat from the bottom of the body before …

Lacquer thinner or acetone.
If you are trying to get the undercoating off WITHOUT damaging the underlying paint, them make sure the paint isn't lacquer based. Test on a small inconspicuous area.

"Goof Off" is another option, but will require more effort.

Dan you can also use Mineral Spirits, always worked for me.

Perhaps a wire wheel, but it depends on the budget. Try it out in a hidden spot.

Copious amounts of Goof Off is pretty gentle, but time consuming. It won't touch the paint if that is your goal.

3M Adhesive Remover is some of the best stuff on earth for a job like this.
