67 shelby I have been working on for the last year

I've been picking away at a 67 Shelby for a local guy. The car only came into the shop for a couple rear floor pans. After I got into floor I recommended replacing the complete floor because the front pans weren't that good either. Once the floor came out new toe boards needed to be installed along with torque boxes and front frame rails. Then the owner decides to replace the passenger side rear frame rail. The car was in a hard accident at some time in its life. Thinking I was done with my tasks the owner decides he wants new quarters and outer wheel wells. When that was complete now a new roof skin. All this time he never said he wanted me to paint the car. After I finished the sheet metal replacement he brings up painting the car back to it's original color Britney Blue. That started the stripping blasting phase and getting these panels flat. I started the painting process this past weekend and I must say I am very happy with the results. The fiberglass pieces were challenging but I got everyone to fit real nice actually better than Shelby most likely.

Nice job. Probably bring in more work for you. I have a 68 GT500KR. Alcapulco blue. that body style is slick.

Very nice Jason!

I enjoy working on them more than driving them. I already have a 70 GTO lined up for the next challenge. I may get my 55 chevy done someday...LOL

Color down the color is down on the body....LOl I'm all about taking on projects like this and I must say I hit this paint job out of the park. The owner is very happy. Hardly no dust and just a small mount of wet sanding....Just buff and go!

I love that color on the Shelby's the Cobra's and mid year Vettes...

Buffed the quarter and roof out last night.

Jason, your work, would put some of the Big name shops to shame! Plus you charge a good rate for your work. You could work on my car, any day of the week! Congratulations BBBenny

Nice work. I love that color!
Where are you located? How about doing a '75 Firebird someday? Gramma's car could use a new paint job to replace the 25 year old paint on it now. |
Jason, what clear are you using ? Does it stay open very long ? Looks like you are a garage painter too.

Steve not to far from you I'm just outside of Albany NY. The Shelby will be done by the end of this month. We put the trunk lid,air dams, headliner and windshield in today. To be honest with you Steve the list is getting long as time goes on it seems. Currently I have a 70 GTO coming into the shop next. That will put me into the fall. I have been contacted from a couple of members but nothing confirmed after the GTO. I was hoping to get to my own 55 but the way things are going it's going to be a while.

Mike I use PPG deltron base coat and concept 20/20. Dust free in 50 minutes I think it's what the data sheet says. I've used concept 2042 in the past that closes up I think in 30 minutes it's more of a production clear. In my eyes the 2020 is a better clear a lot more depth!

Thanks Jason, I have used 2024 forever because it does not stay open long, next car I am going to try 2020.

Thanks guys. I have some sad news. The owner picked up the car on Saturday and ended up having a stroke Monday morning. He waited 44 years to get this car restored. Very said. He is working on recovery now and has a long road ahead of him.
Check the Pontiac section for the 70 GTO I'm taking on. It was pulled from a local so called body shop. Boy someone needs to take the tools out of this guys hands. What a hacker! |
Jason, that's too bad. Here's hoping the guy can recover quickly....:beers:
|
Sad to hear the guy is down after picking up what appears to be a fantastic car. Love the quality of that prep, and the paint is outstanding for a garage based spray.
Bravo! |
